Bill W Posted October 18, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried to find another thread on this but could not. I have PS5 and when I try to use the NIK collection with a Monochrom dng file, I do not have that option to open NIK in filters. Is there something I am doing wrong. If I open the corresponding jpg file, I have access to all of the NIK collection. Any advice would be appreciated. Do I need to save the dng as something else or convert it? Advertisement Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Hi Bill W, Take a look here Monochrom DNG Files and NIK. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
photomac Posted October 18, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2014 Seems you've set Photoshop (ACR) to open Monochrom DNGs in grayscale mode. NIK expects RGB files (ProPhoto, aRGB, sRGB ...).
250swb Posted October 19, 2014 Share #3 Posted October 19, 2014 Yes, the default setting for the Monochrom is Greyscale but that isn't very useful anyway, you can't use tone or match conventional photo papers and it would still need changing to sRGB if you wanted to save a copy as a JPEG. So best to keep the same colour space throughout and open the .dng as a 16 bit TIFF in whichever colour space you normally use. Steve
Bill W Posted October 19, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted October 19, 2014 My working color space is Adobe RGB 1998. It is easy to convert to that and then I have all of the NIK collection available. I guess before I used the NIK collection, I was only using Silver Effects and it did not require that I convert the dng file. Oh Well thanks guys. 250swb Posted October 19, 2014 Share #6 Posted October 19, 2014 Good point, every .dng has to come out of ACR as something, otherwise it would still be unprocessed data, so worth checking ACR settings (underneath the image when it is opened in ACR) to make sure it is being processed as the best file possible, and not an 8 bit JPEG for instance.
