Advertisement Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Hi chounws, Take a look here Hood 12585H reversible on Summaron 35mm f2.8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted October 15, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 15, 2014 I would have to try at home... but I think it can : am rather sure of this in relation with my old Summicron 35 1st version (indeed, is some years I don't use it anymore...), which has a barrel almost identical : of course, you use the bottom (hood reversed) set of spring/loaded tabs engaged in the lens' inlet, so that the upper part of the hood is a bit elevated over the lens' top (otherwise, you interfere with the focusing tab, if I remember well) and accomodates the cap that was originally provided with the 12585 (mine has gone lost...) The modern 12524 plastic hood is more compact.... I think it can be used on Summarons too (never tried, iirc) but no reversed mounting...

Thanks a lot Luigi, You are always provide high value knowledge to us, to make it easier for others I post the picture of the lens talking about here and this the hood I currently use, sure this one cannot reversible. In case you did found that the 12585 can fit reversible on this Summaron please share me the picture of it if you could, thank you very much. Choun Welcome, dear visitor! zeitz Posted October 15, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 15, 2014 The focusing protrusion on the side of the Summaron prevents either 12585 or IROOA from fitting in the reversed position.
luigi bertolotti Posted October 15, 2014 Share #5 Posted October 15, 2014 True...the check of tonight proves that I remembered wrong, sorry... (probably, confused with the Summicron 50... even with focus tab or knob both hoods can be mounted reversed) Welcome, dear visitor! jc_braconi Posted October 18, 2014 Share #7 Posted October 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks a lot guys, it clear now that this hood 12585 cannot fit reversible on Summaron f2.8, Thank you again for this knowledge :) Based on the last image from Luigi, years ago I milled just the part of the hood necessary to slip on the finger of the focus ring. when the hood is on use I let the window created by the milling facing to the ground. luigi bertolotti Posted October 18, 2014 Share #8 Posted October 18, 2014 BRILLIANT !!! With the IROOA the milling would be more delicate...(and impossible for the goggled lens )
gyoung Posted October 18, 2014 Share #9 Posted October 18, 2014 I have actually seen that done before, back in the late 60s when I worked in a leica dealers, a modified 12585 turned up in a trade in. Gerry
