The shocking decline in numbers is attributed in large part to the reduction in the population of milkweed, the only leaf the Monarch caterpillar feeds on - they are thought to have evolved together. This is one of the few Monarchs I have seen this year, and the only one I have been able to photograph. Two views:  Welcome, dear visitor! Yvan, I used the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 superzoom with the 1" sensor and Leica 25-400 zoom. A Leica-branded version of this camera has just been announced, by the way.
