Fun to see these shades of Toronto Odin.  Here is a place on a local lake where I swim my dog, and not too far south of Vancouver.  I always like to have a camera in tow because the view is always different here!164511989.mSm6KkZh.Bloedel.jpg

Yoki,

I just love the X typ 113.  (It is so very much under appreciated).

Great shot!

Rob

Thanks, Rob..

I do agree with you; the X Typ 113 is underrated. It is a great camera that is able to produces excellent images.

I have to admit that I bought the X 113 because of it's look and I didn't really expect it to replace my other cameras. I found the AF is not as reliable as my other cameras, and the auto mode is also not reliable. I don't like to spend too much time on processing the raw file (using Lightroom) -and the jpeg looks a bit weird to my eyes- so it is another burden for me to really utilize the X 113.

However, with the launch of the new iPhotos photo editor (from Apple), I found out that it is a lot more easier and faster to edit the raw files using it. The result is so pleasing to my eyes, especially the colors and the -so called- micro contrast.

Most of people now are looking for a good camera that is also make you looks good, and the X 113 is the one.

The Q 116 is surely a better camera (faster, more accurate AF, bigger sensor, EVF, wi-fi, etc.), it has almost everything that people are complaining about the X 113. So it is understandable that people are looking for it now (instead of the the X 113). I was highly tempted to sell my X 113 to help me fund for the Q 116, but when I get better understanding how to use the X 113 and how to process the raw file, I decided to cancel that plan. Maybe one day I'll buy myself the Q 116, but not in the near future.

If I may give you only two tips to maximize your X 113, then they will be these;
  1. Always use the raw file, and
  2. Use the manual mode shooting
Cheers!

Yoki,

In my situation, I did in fact 'upgrade' to the Q. (My wife now has the X 113). Yes, it is a major improvement with its autofocus speed and punchier colors/ contrast and its included viewfinder, which btw is excellent. The full frame aspect renders more satisfying images, as well. Nonetheless, when I look back at some of my 113 shots I remain so very impressed with what an excellent camera it is!  And, at the cost savings it will always be a "bargain" compared to the Q. But, yes, the Q nails autofocus more consistently and certainly more quickly. (I cannot say enough good things about the Q).

I would also agree that the Apple Photos program editing is much improved with the "Brilliance" slider. A major difference in editing output. I am a bit lazy about going into LR to do editing but will do so every once in a while to see whether I can improve the final image. Frequently that can still be the case with certain shots.

The 113 is a beautiful looking camera, a pleasure to carry, and imo terrific and very much under apprecated!

Following this, I have recently again found the Jpegs I shoot with my X113 look good but can never resist processing Raw- for me it makes enough of a difference.  Also because there is a bit more work involved, I am more discerning of what I keep to process. Nice to see interest in this camera. It is a good looking camera but also has a feel for working with that holds it's own against most anything out there in my opinion. Sure there are issues with speed but it is not really designed for speed.  As for accuracy, metering or otherwise, I always find it necessary to make adjustments as I go. This camera is a nice compliment to my MM currently.
