Thank you everybody for all your help and interest in my problem.

Bank transfer sounds interesting and would solve many of my problems. But can I trust Red Dot (for me this is a lot of money...)?

Regards

Johan

If you can't trust Red Dot I would not know who you can trust.

As already stated here in the UK a credit card issuer is jointly responsible with the retailer for the goods and in the UK is the safest way to purchase from any store, mail order or provider of services. I always use a credit card even if I have to pay a small charge in certain cases for this reason.

I have dealt with Red Dot since they first opened and always found them to be extremely reliable

Please note that neither Red Dot or Leica Mayfair will accept Oil, Reindeer or Herring.

Plastic is best and not a problem. London is full of tourists stocking up on high end gear of all sorts ....

All the UK Leica official dealerships are trustworthy. If they weren't they would be featuring on this forum regularly .....

Thank you Ted Lemon and gabriel!

I understand from their homepage that they have been in business for a number of years. Are their financial standing/results available on the web as it would be in Norway if they were located here?

probably not ....... but I too have bought plenty of things from them mail-order over the years and they are honest, reliable and very helpful.

why not compromise and take a mixture of cash and plastic ? The worst that can happen is you may have a faulty camera or one that needs some adjustment .... and Leica's warranty covers you worldwide for that .... and if bought in the UK you would have the 'Passport' cover for accidental damage etc for the first year as well .... (probably)

I don't think there is much to worry about .... just whether your CC card covers the amount or not.

I was in Leica Mayfair when an American guy bought £55,000 of M bodies and lenses by credit card .......
