Duane Pandorf Posted September 23, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 23, 2014 It is a video interview on Red Dot forums. Thanks Jaap, I haven't finished watching that one all the way but did see a shorter one with the Michael Reichmann over at Luminance Landscape. Just now it was 45% of respondents to the survey in this forum who wanted a digital M with no display.

Duane Pandorf Posted September 23, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 23, 2014 Perhaps they could dispense with the tasteless Audi design if they put it into regular production. It is a video interview on Red Dot forums. I just finished watching the video and it does sound like there is a serious interest in this camera without the LCD. They did talk about the body having strap lugs as compared to the special edition made by Audi. What I thought was clever was modifying the Movie Button so that with one press it showed the battery level in the viewfinder and second press showed how many images left on the SD card. I'd love to spend some time shooting with one of these.

I would have agreed with tasteless from the photograph. In the flesh I think it is a beautiful design.
bocaburger Posted September 23, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 23, 2014 I still don't get why I should dispense with all the features the LCD provides unless the camera was thinned back to M7 depth. Yes even if the mount had to protrude. The lens mount is irrelevant to gripping the camera. Otherwise I turn off auto review and ignore the LCD aside from menus just as I do with every digital camera I own or have owned. The other thing about the M 60 that completely turns me off is the red-only frame lines. I detest them on the M240 but at least it's only an option. pieterpronk Posted September 23, 2014 Share #11 Posted September 23, 2014 I love the idea, but if it uses the m240 sensor, it just seems silly to invest in technology that will probably be updated in another year. If they release the next generation M in two versions, ie. one with and another without a LCD I would go for the one without lcd.
mmradman Posted September 23, 2014 Share #12 Posted September 23, 2014 I love the idea, but if it uses the m240 sensor, it just seems silly to invest in technology that will probably be updated in another year. If they release the next generation M in two versions, ie. one with and another without a LCD I would go for the one without lcd. Ask yourself why bother with developing next generation M when you can recycle existing technology and sell it at premium price. All Leica needs to do is to drum up frenzy and there are sufficient number of M60 supporters to sway opinion in M60 direction. There are numerous benefits for manufacturer when offering simplified product, camera without rear LCD and EVF/Video requires less firmware development and less glitches to deal with. No strap lugs means no risk of these falling off (although it was stated that production M60 would be fitted with lugs) etc. So Leica, if you read this by all means develop production M60, it is lovely looking camera and I hope it sells well, but I will not be buying. For my needs and wants next digital M shall be providing best digital imaging technology there is. Don't mess with OVF but please provide optional EVF which is state of the art. When I want retro enjoyment I have film and beautiful MP (with batteries removed) at my disposal.

jaques Posted September 24, 2014 Share #14 Posted September 24, 2014 this idea of this camera is interesting: but not the price, functionality, or looks. Forget about this Jaap- skip it! Shelve you Gas. Encourage Leica to do better. Wait a few years. If they had made a true 'Mini' M Leica C(d) crop format M mount camera (in color or B&W)- or something else really interesting then go for it. But this M60 doesn't cut the mustard. It doesn't even have a shutter crank:rolleyes:. Remember you were happy with your M9: now you have the Monochrom and the M240. Enough I think this camera would make a lot more sense if it was a lot cheaper than the M240- not more expensive:cool:. A 'simplified' M for bare bones purists. Part of 'simplified' should equal cheaper.

Raul Posted September 24, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 24, 2014 Any chance it would be smaller, lighter and cheaper? Yes, I've read the comments re small volume leading to higher prices, etc I know there's only a small difference in thickness between the m9 and the m240 (i have both) but the m9 feels better in the hand for me compared to my M. Also, if there's no LCD, how does one do sensor cleaning and such... or firmware updates...
