zeitz Posted October 28, 2015 Share #21 Posted October 28, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't understand Apple's logic. What does Rosetta have to do with Nikon scanners? Did not Nikon scanners and drivers run on Windows PCs? Modern Macs are Intel computers; Rosetta has to do with ancient PowerPC Macs software and newer OS X, unrelated to Window OS VMs. ( https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271) So even if for some reason a VM doesn't work, the Nikon software should work with Bootcamp. Just boot the Mac as a PC and install Windows. My question is did the Nikon scanner software run on Windows 7, which you have on your Parallels VM? Or was Windows XP the last Microsoft OS that it worked on? My Konica Minolta 5400 worked last on Windows XP. I'm not a fan of VueScan so I ordered Windows XP 64bit Pro today. I'll install it on a VMWare virtual machine when the disc arrives. I'll let you know if I can get the original KM drivers to work. I'll physically connect the KM 5400 by Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2.

zeitz Posted November 1, 2015 Share #22 Posted November 1, 2015 Well. I received my legal version of Windows XP 64 bit Professional. I installed Windows XP in VMWare Fusion 7. It runs great along side Windows 8. It reminds me how nice Windows XP really is. The Konica Minolta software installed properly and launches. Then I ran into trouble. I connected the scanner using Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2. The system did not see the hardware. I then connected the scanner using USB. Now the computer sees the hardware, and I selected the scanner as Windows hardware. However, when I launch the KM software, I get an error message that the scanner is not connected. I can't find the scanner in the hardware / imagining device list. My initial thought it is that the driver did not install. I'll continue working with it and report back. For reference I use a MacPro (late 2013), which is the current model. It is a low end MacPro with 4 cores and 16GB of RAM. I run El Capitan 10.11.1. tobey bilek Posted November 7, 2015 Share #23 Posted November 7, 2015 Silverfast if you can afford it. Problem being it is scanner specific and the scanner breaks, you are out $300 for software.
Ted Lemon Posted November 13, 2015 Share #24 Posted November 13, 2015 A question. I have an old iMac where I use the original Nikon scanner s/w into CS3 running under Rosetta which enables the plug in to work. If I went to VueScan on my MacBook air with LR6 would it appear as a plug in or is a standalone system that exports TIFF (or whatever files) ? philipus Posted November 18, 2015 Share #25 Posted November 18, 2015 Between 299-499 EUR here in Europe, I believe, depending on scanner. Incredibly high imho. you are out $300 for software. Ted, I believe the answer is no. A question. I have an old iMac where I use the original Nikon scanner s/w into CS3 running under Rosetta which enables the plug in to work. tobey bilek Posted November 23, 2015 Share #26 Posted November 23, 2015 Silverfast is a gem, but scanner specific. If the scanner breaks, it is most like not repairable and you are out the cost of Silverfast. Try OWC computing for fire wire adapter

There is more about this issue in other sections in this forum , that could be very useful. /Ted
