Dringo Posted September 17, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I was just wondering whether anyone else has experienced this since the new firmware. I happens to me most times I switch on my M? The Focus Aid option is set to Auto in the menu but refuses to zoom in when I turn the focus ring. If I unscrew the lens and then re-click, more often than not it then works for a time but then reverts to not working when i switch the camera back on later. I have cleaned the 6 bit coding contacts on both lens and body as a precaution but the behavior is still there. The lens mount is not obviously "loose" and I have tried with several M lenses Thanks in advance
Advertisement Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Hi Dringo, Take a look here Intermittent Focus Aid. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
MainlyMonochrome Posted September 17, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 17, 2014 Yes, exactly the same experience as you've described. Nine times out of ten it (re)calibrates after a reboot of the camera. Sorry, but that's all I got
lct Posted September 17, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 17, 2014 I would check that "Focus Aid" is set to "Automatic" and that magnification is set to "x5" or "x10".
jaapv Posted September 17, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 17, 2014 I think that is the answer. Accidental operation of the thumb wheel can disable the focus aid.
MainlyMonochrome Posted September 18, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2014 I would check that "Focus Aid" is set to "Automatic" and that magnification is set to "x5" or "x10". Can't comment for the OP, but mine is set to automatic.

pop Posted September 18, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would check that magnification is set to "x5" or "x10" then. as opposed to "x1", to make it abundantly clear.
lct Posted September 18, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 18, 2014 Ah yes, what would i do without you?
Dringo Posted September 21, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted September 21, 2014 Hi, Just to confirm, the focus aid does not activate at all and when it does finally (by unclicking and then re clicking the lens), it is in the x5 magnification as set by me? jaapv Posted September 21, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 21, 2014 The magnification can only be changed with the focus aid active.
