jmr237 Posted September 17, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) This question came up in the context of the new M-A, which of course does not have a meter. I have an M6, and there is a noticeable notch in the shutter release as you reach the stage that powers the meter. Does the MP have a similar feeling? Or is the shutter release smooth all the way through? I once handled an M3 in a used shop and I liked the smoother shutter release feel. I would imagine the M-A has that same lack of a detent or notch. Interested to hear from those of you who have experience with both the M6 and MP. I do not own an M3 but can confirm the step is absent in my M4, for obvious reasons. Like you, I would expect the M-A experience to be close to that of previous meterless Ms. As an aside, note that in well over 30 years of M photography in all sorts of environments, the smoothness you describe has *never* impacted my experience of M camera performance (shutter lag remains pretty much identical for all film Ms), nor has it been an issue of any other sort. Hope this helps.

Stealth3kpl Posted September 19, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2014 The shutter release travel is slightly further than on the meterless cameras. The shutter release is one of the two things I would change on my MPs, the other being removing the battery hatch/cover. Pete
250swb Posted September 20, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 20, 2014 the other being removing the battery hatch/cover. But then the battery will fall out? To the OP, semi interesting question, if for no other reason than I've had my MP since 2004 and off the top of my head couldn't tell you if it has or has not a detent or notch. So I've just rummaged in my camera bag and can confirm it doesn't, it is smooth action and the meter activates after a little bit of travel, but no much. So now I know. jmr237 Posted September 20, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted September 20, 2014 Perhaps it varies among MPs--on some you can notice it, on others you can't. On my M6 it is quite noticeable, almost to the point that it might need cleaning or adjustment.
