Has there been anyone using thess pouches? Billingham AVEA 3 Pouch (Black) BI 500201-01 B&H Photo Video

 

For me it's is not always convenient to carry the lenses and camera in a Hadley bag so I wondered if a different approach would work.

The idea was to put a 35mm lens on the camera, and have it on a strap while carrying 75mm Cron and 135mm APO in it's pouch on my belt, each on one side.

 

Do you think this would work? Would you rather get a separate waist belt instead of using the one on the jeans?

Are there any other options for lens pouches (preferably not bulky) one could attach to a waist belt or regular belt on jeans?

And if it's a waist belt, I don't need a camera bag on it as it will be on the strap, but only something to carry the lenses in.

I bought AVEA3 on a whim and still trying to figure out how to use it. Mobile phone would be one suggestion or a pack of cigarettes but I don't smoke any more and don't intend to restart to justify ownership of this tiny but beautiful pouch.

 

Some issues:-

 

• Compartment is very tight, it will accommodate 90mm AA lens but taking it out is hard work, works better with 50mm f1.4 probably good fit for 75mm APO.
  
• It is fastened with two press studs which although very strong don't give me confidence to place expensive M lens in it, either carried on the waist belt or attached to Billingham bag.
  
• Only photographic item that would fit (just) and could stomach to loose is Manfrotto mini table tripod (model 709B) - it cost about the same amount as pouch itself.
  

 

Edit; I had a look at B&H customer reviews and noticed bigger AVEA5 being praised under the description of smaller AVEA3 (Mark 6/5/2013), with two images. I would suggest to consider bigger AVEA5 as more practical side pouch, I still reserve my lack of confidence into strength of press studs in conjunction with expensive items.

I am using an AVEA5 to store My M6 with Summaron 35. The AVEA3 is imo to small.

Understand, but my idea was to keep the camera on a strap around the neck. The problem is with extra two lenses that don't fit my pocket, and I wouldn't like to carry a bag around just for those two lenses. Hence, the plan was to buy two of the pouches mentioned in the title and solve the issue, but not sure whether this worked well...

AVEA5 is good for 2 lenses (s'cron or elmarit) in a soft leather wrap. No experience with AVEA3!

It is a side bag for the Billingham for Leica bag, not a stand-alone bag (although I suppose you could hang it from your belt and carry a Swiss Army Knife and a box of matches in it). It will take smallish M lenses up to the APO-Telyt 135- slightly difficult to get out-  or not too big accessories. I have a couple for my BfL bags, when they are too full.

No way will the CL fit in, nor its lenses.

For the intended use I would advise the 72 camera bag with a suitable insert.

Thank you. Plan to use it with my leica Combination bag. But I think, the Avea 5 will be much better.

You mean like Batman and his utility belt? 

There has to be a better solution than the Caped Crusader or looking like Jesse James. How about an ordinary 'fanny pack', but we call them 'bum bags' in Europe. Or how about a small sling bag, the type of photographic bag that you wear across your body with the goods either tight on your back or loosely dangling at your side when needed. Either would avoid the situation where a conventional bag swings around gets in the way. It would also be big enough to get the camera in when you pack up and go home.

I wanted a small bag to carry a couple of M lenses. Bought this Billingham, then found a length of plastic drain which had been in the garden for years. (Knew eventually I'd find a use for it.), cut two pieces to size then glued them together and forced some foam into the bottom of each. I can either wear it on my belt, or it came with a neck strap. I sometimes get three lenses into it; two short ones stacked and the 75mm Summicron. It's been all over the world and works a treat.
