APO-Extender-R questions?

Thanks Mladen I missed that table in L-Wiki.

But if I'm using the lenses only on the M240 and not an R film camera what is the difference between the 11 262-APO or 11 269-ROM (? also an APO)?

What about the 180 APO-Telyt? I'm told elsewhere it is OK but wanted to check if it mattered which model was used.

Impossible to mount the 1.4x on the 28-90mm Vario Elmarit

You may find that you have to refocus after changing the zoom setting!

Mostly I use the 2x with a 280 f4 which obviously doesn't have the additional variable of zooming in the optics. I don't use mine very often on the 28-90mm and discovered this anomaly when I tried the technique for focusing I usually use with the lens alone when wanting a wide angle. Then, I zoom up to 90, focus on the main subject then zoom out to a wider angle but with the 2x mounted the focus is vey different and has to be reset every time the zoom facility is used. The moral - set the desired focal length first, don't alter it, then focus...

I've no idea if the same difficulty arises with say the 70-200 as I don't have one. I've never tried the 2x with my 21-35!

Hope this helps,

Best wishes,

Graeme

Thanks for your advice Graeme.

My 2x APO-Extender arrived a few days ago - looked like it had never been used.

I have tested it on my 28-90 Vario-Elmarit-R for IQ which is most impressive. However I didn't test its focus consistency after zooming but will do so over the weekend.

I'm still deciding between an 180 APO-Telyt (sensible decision :)) or APO-Elmarit (crazy decision )

My approach would be to start with the less costly lens, see if it's a focal length I use frequently, and if its limitations would be solved by the f/2.8 and it's a focal length I find I'm using it frequently then I'd look for the f/2.8.

I found the f/2.8 was overkill for my limited use at that focal length. It's a fabulous lens and if I had not needed the funds elsewhere I'd have kept it. Eventually I'll replace it with the f/3.4 which is still an excellent lens.

Here an example of the APO-Telyt on a crop camera (APS-C) and one with the APO-extender 2x.

Both pictures cropped and sharpened in PS. It is my first work with the extender. I have not (yet) the knowhow of k-h-winkler with LDEW photos. :)

The distance setting was difficult with the moving ants setting. Better worked the skeleton setting.

I used a monopod and f/5.6 and 1/1000.

Took your advice so my newly purchased 1993 3.4/180 APO-Telyt should be here any day.

Looking forwards to using it with & without the 2x APO-extender.

Which APO-Telyt and crop camera (APS-C)?

Is the second image overexposed?

Sorry, I made a mistake, both were with the 180mm.

The lens is the APO-Telyt 180mm 3.4 and the camera is the Ricoh M mount APS-C.

Second try

Two other pictures: 100% crops OOC, skeleton method. I used f/stop 5.6 for both pictures.

First picture: 180mm - giving 270mm on the crop camera - at 1/500 and ISO 200.

Second picture: 180mm + APO-extender 2x - giving 540mm on the crop camera - at 1/1000 and ISO 400.

Would a polafilter help in these cases to increase the contrast? The air was not super clear (still light morning fog). The herons live from the carps, that are grown here in open ponds.

Hallo Apo_Extender Owners,

Here some examples taken in Davos from my Balkony towards Jakobshorn:

1. Apo 2.8x100 no extender

2. Apo 4.0x280 no extender

3. Apo 4.0x280 Apo 1.4 extender

4. Apo 4.0x280 Apo 2.0 extender

5. Apo 4.0x280 Apo 1.4+ Apo 2.0 extender (yes that works)

Very nice, shot with Model: R8 - Digital Back DMR

Thanks.

Right with R8-DMR,

I have also a normal 2x Extender.

I have tried to Combine Apo1.4+Apo2.0+2.0 together, here the result.

This will be a 1568mm Combination x1.37 for the DMR=2148mm.

Important: the mirror to be lifted before the shot, plus a rigid tripod is required.

It is easier with my Sony NEX6, with same resultx1.5=2352mm

regards Peter

Thank you for the nice thread on the Extenders. My Apo 2 just came in today and I am

taking some indoor shots with the Apo Telyt 3.4/180mm and Leica T.

Really impressed by the results.

Was wondering if the Apo 2 with and without ROM have the same optical design?

Perhaps jaapv can give me a reply.

Thanks

Dre
