mirekti Posted September 9, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there anyone using something like this B+W 49mm Screw-In Metal Telephoto Lens Hood #960 65-069625 B&H on their lenses? I think this would really help 75mm Cron. I also have 135mm APO, but not so sure I need it for that lens too as it behaves much better. Does anyone have any experience with those hoods? Will it cause any vignetting to 75mm Cron?
Advertisement Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Hi mirekti, Take a look here Metal screw-in telephoto hood from B+W. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mmradman Posted September 9, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2014 I have good experience with screw in cylindrical lens hoods that are longer than original built-in versions; 50mm f1.4 asph, 75mm f1.4 and 90mm f2 asph. My lens hood of choice is Heliopan, it allows attaching original lens cap at the top end, I also have same B&W metal cylinders, also very good but no front thread to attach lens cap. mirekti Posted September 10, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted September 10, 2014 Thanks for the info about the Heliopan's feature. I hope this will help with the contrast and reduce flare I often see on 75mm Cron which might be caused by the UV/IR filter that is on it.
tobey bilek Posted September 10, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2014 I have long and short versions of the 49 mm and use on the 75 APO. 46 to 49 adapter allows them to be used on the 50 1.4 I tend to use the long on M8 and short on M9. I just leave the uv/ir filters on for both cameras and the built in allows little lens shading with filter in place. Expect some minor finder cut off. Other than that, good to go. mirekti Posted September 10, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted September 10, 2014 I tend to use the long on M8 and short on M9. Is there a reason for this? I planned on getting the long version. The short is only 12.5mm compared to long which is 28.5mm so I was afraid the short could be too little, but maybe not... Will a long one cause vignetting on full frame? albireo_double Posted September 12, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 12, 2014 I bought the 39mm Heliopan long version to use with the Cron 50 Apo (the built-in hood is inadequate in my view, even though it kind of "swings into action" nicely). But the Heliopan long version vignettes when shooting wide open, so I may have to order the short version or try to shorten the long one somehow. I wish I could buy a rectangular hood for this lens, with a similar design to that used on the 35 Lux FLE.
gyoung Posted September 13, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a heavystar vented hood on my Summilux 1.4/50, works a treat. Would have thought yiu could use a 12585 on a Summicron asph 50mm with 39mm thread. Gerry
mirekti Posted September 13, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted September 13, 2014 Not sure about the vented as it might block too much of the viewfinder. My favorite is Heliopan long at the moment. It vignettes on 50mm Cron, but it might work better on 75. Can someone confirm it?
spydrxx Posted September 14, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 14, 2014 I had an issue with slight vignetting using some 3rd party hoods, but a Dremel hand tool took care of the issue (had to respray the hood with primer and flat black paint though). As much as I don't like the new "tulip" look, the hoods do their job just fine.
farnz Posted September 14, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 14, 2014 I use the long Heliopan 39mm hood with my 73/1.9 Hektor and I haven't experienced vignetting so the angle of view from your 75/2 APO-Summicron-M asph shouldn't cause vignetting with a 49 mm hood.
