Advertisement Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Hi MarkP, Take a look here $280,000 for Leica 5/600mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted September 9, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 9, 2014 Of course it is APO; it is a mirror lens. But an APO-Telyt? The only reason anybody would pay a substantial amount of money would be a collector of prototypes - and even then I doubt a zero less would find a buyer.... But, one never knows. It takes only one fool.
luigi bertolotti Posted September 9, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 9, 2014 Zell am See is such a fine place that I'd like to come back (was there 9 or 10 years ago) to have a look... (provided the Telyt is really there... ) I remember to have seen pics of a prototype Mirror lens (Lager) , but have to check tonight ... seems to me it wasn't Canadian... Anyway... the seller tries to "shoot in the high range"... , I doubt he finds a real buyer at that insane price... many proptotype-or-next to Elcan lenses (mostly army-related) have been sold at much more reasonable prices... even if this is really a BIG item and, in a certain sense, weight and dimensions are valuable... pop Posted September 9, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2014 Of course it is APO; it is a mirror lens. I rather think that most mirror lenses also sport some lenses. This one seems to have some lens or lenses towards the camera end.
luigi bertolotti Posted September 10, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 10, 2014 .... I remember to have seen pics of a prototype Mirror lens (Lager) , but have to check tonight ... seems to me it wasn't Canadian... I checked... no relation with the ebayed item.... Lager displays a pair of Wetzlar mirror prototypes (400 and 600mm f5) dated to '50s for Visoflex usage.
masjah Posted September 10, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 10, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) This was advertised back in March (mentioned in an earlier thread about "Rate R tele lenses from best to worst ...." or something like that) - clearly he hasn't yet sold it; can't imagine why not. derleicaman Posted September 14, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 14, 2014 Wow, $280K for a lens! That's a stretch. I asked Dr. Mandler which lens was his favorite design at one of the LHSA meetings he attended years ago. His response really surprised me when he said it was a mirror telephoto lens he had designed for Elcan. I would have expected him to say the Noctilux or one of the many other lenses he is known for. Not sure if this lens is the one he was referring to.
jaapv Posted September 14, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 14, 2014 I rather think that most mirror lenses also sport some lenses. This one seems to have some lens or lenses towards the camera end. That is right, nearly all camera mirror lenses are catadioptric. However, due to the relative simplicity of the rear element they are often near-apochromatic or better in that respect. Herr Barnack Posted September 15, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 15, 2014 I can't help but think of all the other Leica gear and travel to exotic destinations that the $259,100 USD that lens sold for would get me...
alan.y Posted September 15, 2014 Share #11 Posted September 15, 2014 Does anyone know how much the prototypes Noctilux-R 52/1.2 and Summilux-R 28/1.4 sell for a few years ago?
bernd_muc Posted September 15, 2014 Share #12 Posted September 15, 2014 Shipping to Europe and World but "Not shipping to Germany". Funny people, these Austrians ... Generally I always wonder why people that want to sell (used) stuff on ebay don't just let their auctions start at 1 EUR or USD and see what they get. In this case 200,000 EUR might be a little off, though ...
luigi bertolotti Posted September 15, 2014 Share #13 Posted September 15, 2014 Shipping to Europe and World but "Not shipping to Germany". Funny people, these Austrians ... Generally I always wonder why people that want to sell (used) stuff on ebay don't just let their auctions start at 1 EUR or USD and see what they get. In this case 200,000 EUR might be a little off, though ... This is a professional dealer... and the item is unique... probably he has evaluated with care which is the best way to get top money from a sale that doesn't follow the "mean trends" of Leica used market... ; allowing any start offer on ebay does establish a certain level of bidding, well visible to any... : considering that for such pieces (and money) one is surely willing to SPEAK with the seller, maybe he thinks that is better to shoot high, wait for some direct sign of interest and start a private negotiation (I am not an ebay seller, but I think that a seller can act like this, within the ebay ecosystem)
pop Posted September 15, 2014 Share #14 Posted September 15, 2014 The professional dealer has retracted the original advert and now shows two items, both for a "unique lens" with the same serial number.
luigi bertolotti Posted September 15, 2014 Share #15 Posted September 15, 2014 He sells also a Telyt S 800 !!! And not at an indecent price...
alan.y Posted September 15, 2014 Share #16 Posted September 15, 2014 Generally I always wonder why people that want to sell (used) stuff on ebay don't just let their auctions start at 1 EUR or USD and see what they get. In this case 200,000 EUR might be a little off, though ... An auction really only makes sense when you can't afford to wait. And since this lens is unique, there is no market equilibrium. Better to wait for the one impulsive shopper, wealthy person, or determined collector to come along.
