platypus Posted September 6, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) K-H, wow this is such a wonderful lens, I had the pleasure of owning one when I had R series cameras. I must admit I probably did not give it the amount of use it deserved due to the effort involved, but when it had an outing the results were always such a pleasure. This image is a brilliant example of it's talents.!!
John Basso Posted September 8, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 8, 2014 KH. I was amazed by the absolute sharpness of this hummingbird and colour. This is one of the very best I ever have seen.I knew from the past when I owned a Leica MP4 .I almost bought this lens . However regretfully I chickened out .If one only could have looked into the future. Thanks for posting these excellent photo's . Bravo ***** + 1. John Basso. allamande Posted September 9, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 9, 2014 It's been a while since I've seen one of your bird images. These are breathtaking! Are those eyelashes or what? Astonishing! Ece
k-hawinkler Posted September 9, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted September 9, 2014 It's been a while since I've seen one of your bird images. These are breathtaking! Are those eyelashes or what? Astonishing! Ece Ece, Thanks. The only things I can come up with are maybe parasites. The stuff around the eyes seems to sit on top of the surface. It does't seem to grow out of the hummingbird. Pretty gross, I am afraid.
allamande Posted September 9, 2014 Share #12 Posted September 9, 2014 Ece, The only things I can come up with are maybe parasites. The fact that they are so evenly distributed made me suspicious about your theory so I did a quick research and I am happy to tell you that those are indeed "eyelashes." Thanks to your image, I learned something interesting today. Ece Many thanks Ece. WOW! You figured it out. I like your analytical thinking, quote:"The fact that they are so evenly distributed made me suspicious about your theory..." That seems to be the give away although there are some gaps. The gaps threw me off! "Eyelashes" they are. Amazing! I looked at more images, also taken with none Leica gear, and saw the Eyelashes in additional hummingbird images. Thanks again.
