crow Posted August 27, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 27, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) 1)Right when I put in the new emtec sd 4gb card this message came up on the M8 screen. I had to place the bran new sd into my E-P1, take a shot, then put it back into the M8 and everything went fine, it was able to take pictures. Why is this? 2)Also, when I want to "lock" DNG files they all come out colored; if I want to continue to take shots, without giving an order for them to be b&w each and every separate shot, I can't. B&w means changing settings each time I want the picture to be just DNG. Two options I know of, either DNG+JPEG basic which degrades the DNG shot, or DNG alone in color, otherwise DNG b&w needs a separate command for each and every shot. Am I wright? pop Posted August 27, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 27, 2014 I think the most likely cause for your question #1 is the sliding switch on the side of the SD cards. You might have moved it without realizing it while inserting it into and removing it from the cameras. I am not quite sure about your question #2, because I do not own an M8 any more. However, B&W applies to the JPEG image only. No matter if you selected B&W or colored images, the DNG always contain colored photographs. Turning off JPEG should disable the option to take B&W photographs. It is possible that the preview image included in the DNG might be B&W; I can not try this, however, not owning an M8. stunsworth Posted August 27, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 27, 2014 I've had a similar problem on my M8 for some time. I think it's the sensor inside the camera's card reader, because if I blow very hard into the slot the card will then load ok. I sent the M8 to Leica for a repair estimate. The cost of the card reader was 25 Euros. The labour, and other costs, brought the repair up to 700+ Euros. I didn't think it was worth repairing at that price. crow Posted August 27, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted August 27, 2014 It certainly isn't as you can buy a used M8 for that much! As long as you can "break" the SD's into other digital cameras first then I guess it is all right!

No it isn't. Mixing cameras on the card without formatting is a very bad idea.
wilfredo Posted September 2, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 2, 2014 I had a similar issue a few years ago, and after a few trips to Leica the problem was not resolved. Fortunately the M8 was still under warranty and eventually Leica replaced my M8 with a new M8. Good luck!

pop Posted September 2, 2014 Share #16 Posted September 2, 2014 Oh, ah. I personally do not prefer USB at all because I think the socket in the camera is not very robust and the angle of entry is weird.
