jaapv Posted August 28, 2014 Share #21 Posted August 28, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) As with Apple Designed in Cupertino-Made in China, Leica no doubt designed M product in Germany and makes them either in Germany and Portugal or both as many surmise. What matters to me is that they stand behind what they make and service it accordingly. It has nothing to do with surmising. Leica makes no secret of this. In fact, they are quite proud of their new plant in Portugal, even display a maquette of it at events.

Stevez4 Posted September 6, 2014 Author Share #24 Posted September 6, 2014 My M-P says Leica M-P Type 240, Leica Camera AG, Made in Germany. So I will assume it's made in Germany. Thanks.
Jennifer Posted September 6, 2014 Share #25 Posted September 6, 2014 My M-P says Leica M-P Type 240, Leica Camera AG, Made in Germany. So I will assume it's made in Germany. Thanks. Not necessarily, the rules for manufacture and labelling are complex. It is legitimate (i.e. legal) to mark a product as "Made in .........." when it's only finished off in the country of "origin" even if that work only represented a small percentage of the entire manufacturing process. mjh Posted September 6, 2014 Share #26 Posted September 6, 2014 So what’s new? The M-P is ‘Made in Germany’, in accordance to the rules for those ‘Made in …’ labels. As with all M models, parts of it are manufactured in Leica’s plant in Portugal (see post #2). The sensor is manufactured in France and some other electronic components are probably from Japan, China, South Korea or wherever.
indergaard Posted September 6, 2014 Share #27 Posted September 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) "Made in" is so misleading today, where parts are manufactured and sourced from all over the world. "Made in" should be re-phrased to "Assembled in", cause that's what companies actually do today. They source parts from countries and manufacturers all over the world, then have them shipped to a factory where all those parts are assembled into a final product. Herr Barnack Posted September 17, 2014 Share #28 Posted September 17, 2014 There is absolutely no truth to the rumor that the designation M-P stands for Made in Portugal. Or is there??

In some cases just sewing a label into the garment in clothing manufacture.Leica probably do the bare minimum they need to do to label "made in Germany".I does not really matter. bephoto Posted September 26, 2014 Share #39 Posted September 26, 2014 Dwarfs of black forest make metal parts, internal magical parts are made by fairies and elves using magical glow dust collected from dead wisp-mothers and grounded unicorn horns for sharper images, colors are made by rainbow extracts from Narnia. I thought this is common knowledge among leica users.
