colonel Posted September 2, 2014 Share #41 Posted September 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) There's a glut of these bodies available on the used market, ranging anywhere from 5K to $6K, and in perfect condition. Buy out of state and pay no sales tax on it - so why would someone fork an additional $300 over to Leica? They can eat crow. What glut where ? There isn't a single body available from an authorised dealer in the UK as I write this. 1-2 pop up every month

jaapv Posted September 2, 2014 Share #43 Posted September 2, 2014 In any case, the exchange rate is sensibly increasing, and I am convinced that regardless of exchange rate, there are other factors at play. Companies are not really driven by the actual exchange rates. They hedge against currency fluctuations by buying options. The time frame of two years suggests that Leica is recalculating the long-term currency situation for this camera. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. Einst_Stein Posted September 3, 2014 Share #44 Posted September 3, 2014 A German camera vendor makes customers in the US pay more with the intent to punish Russia? Yeah, that makes sense. All Russian buy Leica from US through on-line.
tookaphotoof Posted September 3, 2014 Share #45 Posted September 3, 2014 Oh now it makes sense.
mjh Posted September 3, 2014 Share #46 Posted September 3, 2014 All Russian buy Leica from US through on-line. In that case they better switch to picking up their Leicas in Baden-Baden or Cyprus or wherever Russians are spending their holidays these days. pop Posted September 3, 2014 Share #47 Posted September 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why shouldn't they buy their Leicas in the Leica store in Moscow?
colonel Posted September 3, 2014 Share #48 Posted September 3, 2014 Since this is all wild speculation and generalisation about 100s of millions of people (Russians) I thought I should get stuck in there If I was a Russian gazillionaire, given Putin I would probably want my money anywhere except Russia these days. Hey I only charge 1% custody fee - subject to European money laundering and terrorism laws audit clearance. Plus happy to buy Leicas' on other's behalf ...... BerndReini Posted September 3, 2014 Share #49 Posted September 3, 2014 Leica just wants to sneak another price increase by their customers. End of story. Everybody expected the worst when it came to pricing for the M240. Then everybody was pleasantly surprised about the price when it was released. The camera was a success for Leica and now they are cranking the screws again. When will the slow-boiled frogs jump out of the cauldron?

mjh Posted September 3, 2014 Share #52 Posted September 3, 2014 Leica just wants to sneak another price increase by their customers. End of story. There is no price increase. For example, here in Hamburg there is Meister Camera offering the M at 6200 Euro, the exact same price as last month or during the last year. But while the price of the M doesn’t change, the value of the USD does.
Jeff S Posted September 3, 2014 Share #53 Posted September 3, 2014 There is no price increase. For example, here in Hamburg there is Meister Camera offering the M at 6200 Euro, the exact same price as last month or during the last year. But while the price of the M doesn’t change, the value of the USD does. Or, said another way, the price does increase in the US only, but that's due to the exchange rate and not as way for Leica to recognize increased profits across the board. Prices have varied by country for some time…nothing new. Jeff
mirekti Posted September 8, 2014 Share #54 Posted September 8, 2014 I can see the prices on the second marked are quite good. For example Fotopia sells new for $6k, and used for just under $5k. I have no need for a third body so I'll pass PS - what's wrong with the vendor? I've never come across them before. It was just a chance landing from Google.. Check: Buy Leica M Typ240 Digital Rangefinder Camera Body (Black) | allgain.co.uk No idea re the standing of the seller - but it's a good price! Given a number of official Leica retailers sell M240 bodies for £7,990 inc. VAT I doubt it's worth going to a third party for such a paltry saving. hoppyman Posted September 24, 2014 Share #59 Posted September 24, 2014 Here in Australia, I can report that major dealers are advertising lower, not higher prices for the M (Typ 240).

Obviously no year one Passport either.
