evering Posted August 7, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, has anyone had any experience with triggers / receivers for M cameras? i.e. which ones work / limited / not at all etc? thanks
Advertisement Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 Hi evering, Take a look here Off Camera Flash for M. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thighslapper Posted August 7, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 7, 2014 Yes ...... and in fact as Leica's implementation of on-camera flash is flakey to say the least .... this is the least painful solution. You can get 3 Yongnou speedlight flashes and a handful of triggers/receivers for under 200GBP for the lot .... just as good as fancy Nikon/canon speedlights..... and use them off camera on manual....... works very well. Lots of more expensive solutions that just add complexity and minimal extra functionality .... and unless you are doing dedicated regular studio work is probably overkill. DigitalHeMan Posted August 7, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 7, 2014 I recently purchased a StudioKing Radio Trigger set (TRC04H) for my M-E and they work very well for the price. No TTL, but work together with my Nikon flashes
sillbeers15 Posted August 7, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 7, 2014 Pocketwizard Plus III works fine with M240.
algrove Posted August 7, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 7, 2014 Pocketwizard Plus III works fine with M240. Is that called the same for both senders and receivers? Thanks.
DigitalHeMan Posted August 7, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 7, 2014 Is that called the same for both senders and receivers? Thanks. It's a transceiver, so yes, both a transceiver and a receiver.

Echo63 Posted August 7, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 7, 2014 Does it have to be Yongnou for Canon or Nikon, I suppose Nikon? Doesnt really matter, TTL wont work so its manual only, and that only uses the centre contact and the edge of the hotshoe. I use Pocketwizard Mini and Flex (TT1 and TT5 - canon version) to trigger my old Canon 580EX flashes in manual mode
DigitalHeMan Posted August 7, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 7, 2014 Does it have to be Yongnou for Canon or Nikon, I suppose Nikon? There is a thread elsewhere on the site about someone who had used the canon version and had ended up damaging the hotshoe due to an extra protruding pin the the canon version has... AlanJW Posted August 7, 2014 Share #10 Posted August 7, 2014 If you just want to get the flash off the camera a Nikon cord SC-17 will do TTL with a Leica flash, and I assume will do A or M with a Nikon flash.
K-Photo Posted August 7, 2014 Share #11 Posted August 7, 2014 I triggered with Pocket Wizards PLUS II, Hensel, Profoto and Multiblitz triggers. They all worked.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted August 7, 2014 Share #12 Posted August 7, 2014 Elincrom Skyport also works well on digital Leicas. Gordon.

Yongnou's are cheap as chips and work surprisingly well with a Canon 580EXII (the receivers are agnostic): I use the Nikon trigger (as advised elsewhere) with no issues. jto555 Posted August 8, 2014 Share #14 Posted August 8, 2014 Has anyone had any luck with off camera HSS with the M? My work-around is: TTL Remote Cord 10m for Nikon SC-28 However a 10m cable is cumbersome. I really would prefer a wireless solution. I am using a Leica SF58. algrove Posted August 8, 2014 Share #15 Posted August 8, 2014 Perhaps the Pocket Wizard Plus X combo might work as it advertised to work with all hot shoe connections. A pair for just under US$200.
paulsydaus Posted August 8, 2014 Share #16 Posted August 8, 2014 I've not heard of anyone doing this wirelessly, I doubt it's possible. I think the extension cord is the only way... rramesh Posted August 11, 2014 Share #19 Posted August 11, 2014 For an M, except for the Nikon SC28 or equivalent cable, and using the SF24 or SF58, none of the other methods will support TTL. For an off camera electronic trigger, it will be manual only and a cheap electronic trigger like the Yongnuo (Nikon version) will work well for the occasional use. I bought mine off eBay and am very happy with it.
CaptZoom Posted August 11, 2014 Share #20 Posted August 11, 2014 I use Paul C Buff's Cyber Commander (fancy name for a somewhat fancy transmitter) with PCB Einstiens with zero problems. I've used Canon's 580 EX2 hotshoe mounted in manual mode without problems. I use Leica M9s.
