I see no reason why Leica cannot provide flash sockets and a USB port on the camera body without spoiling its looks. The need to buy a ridiculously expensive unwanted grip to get the basic functions that most cameras supply as standard is frustrating. Even the diminutive C has USB and HDMI ports. I find that holding the camera with one hand is easier with a Thumbie which I prefer to a Thumbs Up as it leaves the hot shoe available for the EVF. wlaidlaw Posted August 25, 2014 Share #143 Posted August 25, 2014 I suspect not. Leica’s own Image Shuttle has unbelievably, no provision for time lapse. However if you are using a Mac, there is an alternative. You can use Apple’s own Image Capture, using a USB cable. Even then, although I have not tried it recently and with my new Retina MacBook Pro with the 740GB SSD, it only worked with JPEG’s. If you tried with DNG’s it all crashed on my previous MBP with 500GB Hybrid Seagate Momentus hard drive. Sadly, even though I have requested it, Capture One have not got round to adding the M240 to either their list of supported cameras on Capture One’s tethering system for DNG’s or their iPad App. Tethering to an iPad or other tablet is far more convenient than a laptop. Some professional tripods even have iPad clips/mounts on them now. I watched someone using the Phase One MF DSLR in a studio with an iPad and it was great to see your framing, focus and exposure, etc instantly on a 10” screen with easy swiping zoom and pan. Sadly there seems to be a break down in communications between Leica and Phase One. I came across this with the M9 and M240. It’s a bit like two bickering teenage girls at school. You want to knock their heads together. Whatever the issues are, they should sort them out, as it is not in the interests of both companies’ customers. I suspect Adobe gave Leica such a good deal with LR, that Leica decided to dump Phase One, with whom they had just announced a partnership.
