Bad News for Leica

My name is Wonner and I live in the USA. I am new to the forum, and new to the world of Leica as of last month. In fact, until I purchased my T with an 18-56 I had never even held a Leica.

After years of lugging around large camera systems, I worried that living with one small zoom could be a regrettable choice. I was so very wrong. It has been a revelation of freedom and creativity.

So this is bad news for Leica. I probably will not be investing in any more Leica lenses. I really love the feel one camera and one lens. No choices, no distractions, just the shortest distance between brain and image.

I think I need to pay more attention to guys like Henri Cartier-Bresson instead of the crowd of Internet photo-marketeers.

Thanks for reading, and thanks to all of you who have kept Leica alive until I was able to see the light.

Seems like a good day to take some photos!

Congratulations on your acquisition.......enjoy.

There might, however, be those who'd contend that the essence of Leica lens genius lays in its German manufactured primes. That being said, I accept your point as to the convenience of the small(ish) camera/one zoom lens combo.

Welcome to the Forum and I hope that you share some photos from your new Leica. We shall file away your first statement in case the bug really bites and you end up with a lot more Leica equipment as well :)

This sounds like the incubation phase of a severe case of GAS.:D

Welcome!:)

That's how it always starts: Denial and laboring under the yolk of the "one camera, one lens." heresy.

Just kidding - welcome to the forum, good sir.

We would all do well to follow suit - but where's the fun in that?? :D

Hmmm... Sound like a gathering of LA (Leica Anonymous)

Hello, I am a Leica user and I started with an M6, then I realised that it was not just a nice piece of engineering to hold and press the buttons, but it also could be used as a camera (!) the symptoms got worse, first a 50, then a 90, it was followed by one after another, then an M8, M3...

All I can say is that you have mine an other stories, stop while you can get away, run while you can... Don't fall asleep or they will get you!

Now forget all my rubbish and welcome to the Forum you will have a great time!

Cheers

While the SLR has been reinvented and reconfigured multiple times over the years, the Leica M240 feels and operates much as my1969 M4, allowing an almost seamless transfer of the photographic instincts, reflexes and skills I have amassed over the past 45 years.

Very wise words.

It is just about possible to kick the habit. I managed to 'stay clean' for close on 20 years after selling my M6 + lenses :(. But, IME, you have to stay well clear of the 'devil' masquerading as the Leica retailer, because once he gets that new Leica out for you to hold and tempt you, especially if you just happen to have the wherewithal to buy it (not absolutely necessary, but an aggravating factor), the former addict is all but hooked once again. Thereafter, all is lost and the accumulation of very expensive glass becomes the regular fix needed to keep the withdrawal symptoms at bay.

So beware, those considering whether or not to sign up as a disciple of the great 'Red Dot'. You are risking a life long addictive obsession which whilst not damaging to your health will, most certainly, be damaging to your wealth ;).

Well, thought the same years ago when I got a DIGILUX 2, now I´am lusting for the M or the M+ after

M8/ M9 and a bunch of M-lenses.

You better be careful ...

Best

I dunno…. I already had a bunch of lenses from the film days and I have discovered many

wonderful Japanese made for Leica lenses. My favorite being a Konica dual range 21/35.

No, there is nothing that beats a Leica for just pure class.
