I'm looking in to buying a used 240 and was curious if there is there anything in particular I should keep an eye out for? Aside from firmware updates, has the camera remained mostly unchanged since its introduction?

Here in the US prices for a mint 240 are running about $5500-6000 from well known dealers.

thanks in advance

One hopes that the strap lugs no longer fall off. Leica owned up to the fixes.

Get a dealer warranty and carry your own insurance….same with any expensive camera gear…and take pics.

Oh, yes. Forgot about that one, but it sounds like that was resolved quickly.

Found one and put in the order. B-stock from Leica through a dealer I know with a nice discount.

Full 2 year warranty and it even still has the sticker on the baseplate. :-)

Black of course.

thanks everyone

Enjoy. You'll love it

It's been a long time coming.... I shot film Leicas for a very long time, but I simply can't keep up with scanning vast quantities of film anymore. I don't plan on abandoning film entirely, I just enjoy the process too much, but I need to make a change. I tried the DSLR route, but the M system is just too deeply embedded in my blood.

That is my experience too. Best and most enjoyable photography for me has always been with Ms (film). Tried just doing digital relatively "on the cheap", ie, lower end DSLR, and Sigma DP Merrill. Both nothing like the enjoyment of an M. I've tested the M240 (and M9 and Monochrom) extensively now, and what has been key is my post processing skills have improved considerably in this time. When the M240 first launched, what I considered as knowledgeable people at Leica Mayfair said the M240s output was like "medium format color negative". With my better processing skills compared to 6 months again, high end prints off a Lambda now look very much what they described. The M240 files are very smooth (less "crunch" compared to the M9, but when you look there is more detail despite the smooth look) and with a very wide dynamic range and superbly rich files ..... all very medium format colour negative, indeed. This from a long time medium format user ...... who intends to now buy an M240 shortly for color / f B&W in silver efex) and keep an M7 loaded with Fuji Acros.
