Eoin Posted May 1, 2007 Share #21 Posted May 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Guy, it confirms my thoughts on the FOV / VF with the M8. And Images I've seen attest to the quality of the 28 cron, I love some of the smooth bokeh I've seen. Hmmm! I can feel a new purchase in the offing, must resist till I settle the 50 Nocti v 75 Cron issue. Thanks again Guy,
Advertisement Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Hi Eoin, Take a look here M8 and the 28 cron and 35 lux sharpness and bokeh. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 1, 2007 Share #22 Posted May 1, 2007 Your more than welcome. go with the 75 cron , you can just do more with it.
Jamie Roberts Posted May 1, 2007 Share #23 Posted May 1, 2007 Hey Guy-- Every time you do one of these my bank account dwindles! Really!! But--knowing this would happen--and loving the FOV on the M8 as much as you do--I bought the CV28 1.9 recently. As Sean's excellent tests show, this is a true gem of a lens for the money, and I love mine. Yes, someday I'll get the Cron (I have the little Elmarit already--there's the Leica content!) but for now, anyway, it's the CV The Bokeh and edge sharpness on the Cron is superior from what I've seen to just about any 28mm lens out there! Oh yeah--my 35 Lux is the second lens cap on my system. It's a 50-ish lens--perfect, sharp and reliable! In fact, I like the 28s and 35s as replacements for their full-frame counterparts the best, though at the long end the 75 makes a great 100 CV 28 1.9 (cropped a bit) ISO 1250 f2.0 C1 no filters in Vegas shooting from the hip! AGeoJO Posted May 1, 2007 Share #24 Posted May 1, 2007 Wow, a lot of great shots here. The 28mm cron is definitely high on my list although I have been enjoying the 50 lux tremendously. My 35mm lux is not seeing a lot use lately ..
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 1, 2007 Share #25 Posted May 1, 2007 I do hear the CV 28mm ultron is a sweetie also , great to have these choices out there. Seriously i don't know how you can go wrong with leica, Zeiss and CV some better than others of course but this is a lot of fun shooting in this system. The nice thing is it can work within a budget, me i over spent but that's okay at least it is a nice write off and for others not so much so but still can get great optics. The CV15mm is a great example of cheap but great and this Ultron too. The Zeiss 21mm is really nice also. The rest i have not tried so i can't comment but i really am starting to have a blast now. i am finally feeling comfortable about this system and for me that was a big issue since that is all i own at the moment. When a client calls my immediate thought is can it handle it and so far i have yet run into a oh my what to do now issue. So i will keep plugging away until I get a MF system to compliment the M8 and maybe the more i wait the less need i will have, my images are about as detailed as you can get , I see no lacking with the MPX count here. Than throw these lenses on it and magic. Not sure about other M8 owners but i am having fun and i enjoy this new M setup. I can't imagine picking up a Canon 1 series with a 70-200 Zoom on it and enjoy dragging that around. i am getting very spoiled here. LOL Jamie that chromed profile looks nice on that image, looks like a Hollywood poster
Jamie Roberts Posted May 2, 2007 Share #26 Posted May 2, 2007 Hey Guy-- If you can't oversaturate Vegas, what can you oversaturate?! Actually, the chrome profile works really well for neon and skin tones under this kind of funky mixed light. I think because it preserves a lot of red at the expense of green, it actually helps balance out the flourescent and sodium stuff. Though nailing the WB brings out the true greens ok as well. As for overspending, Yikes. Tell me about it!! But just like you I've never had as much fun with a system as this one... it's true. The glass that works here is really great! And since we're talking about lenses, I have one huge annoyance with the CV lenses. Ready for this? They have no red dot!! LOL!!! Ok, it's not about them being 'Leica' lenses--but they're a PITA to change in the dark, I'm finding! How do people do it?! Do you glue guides onto them? Believe me, I'm thinking about it! Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 2, 2007 Share #27 Posted May 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) See that is why the red dot works. LOL Actually the red dot on the leica lenses is extremely nice in the dark. Zeiss has blue but not as big from what i remember and CV has none at least the ones I have tried. But the red protruding dot works very nice in the dark
sean_reid Posted May 2, 2007 Share #28 Posted May 2, 2007 See that is why the red dot works. LOL Actually the red dot on the leica lenses is extremely nice in the dark. That is the first useful comment about the "red dot" (this time on the lens) that I've ever heard..and its true. LOL Cheers, Sean
kidigital Posted May 2, 2007 Share #29 Posted May 2, 2007 Here's the 28cron looking out my hotel window toward Fenway Park in Boston this evening. It is a very nice lens. Kurt Welcome, dear visitor! scott kirkpatrick Posted May 2, 2007 Share #30 Posted May 2, 2007 Hey Guy-- And since we're talking about lenses, I have one huge annoyance with the CV lenses. Ready for this? They have no red dot!! -- they're a PITA to change in the dark, I'm finding! How do people do it?! On the CameraQuest mounts that came with my CV15 and CV50, there is a red notch. It's a bit more subtle, but you can feel it with a thumbnail in the dark. I haven't received my Milich replacement yet for the CV15 mount. Does anyone know if he kept the notch or added a red dot to his? scott
jlm Posted May 2, 2007 Share #31 Posted May 2, 2007 I kept the notch.
MP3 Posted May 2, 2007 Share #32 Posted May 2, 2007 Yes, the 28 Cron handles light in a magical way, virtually flare free. It is great general purpose reportage lens on m8. Hi Eoin, a bit off thread but I receive my discounted Solm-direct Noct 5 days ago. My E60 486 should come in these few days... and I'm soon leaving for Interlaken, Milan and Beijing =) Cheers Matthew
Eoin Posted May 2, 2007 Share #33 Posted May 2, 2007 Matthew Delighted to hear you got your Noctilux, I hope mine is about to ship or not to far away. I'm so looking forward to seeing what this lens can do. If everything works out I'll then have to look hard and long about re-thinking the focal spread. The 28 looks so good, I'm sure I could make room for it .
like_no_other Posted May 2, 2007 Share #34 Posted May 2, 2007 Sorry, but the pictures in the first posts don't look sharp at all - there seems to be a fog that has to be unveiled. Why such pictures as examples for sharpness of Leica lenses?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 2, 2007 Share #35 Posted May 2, 2007 Phillip beach shots are what you are making reference too. There very sharp but there also very close to wide open so only sections are sharp
like_no_other Posted May 2, 2007 Share #36 Posted May 2, 2007 The first picture here Re: outstanding: Leica Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review is a much better example for the lens, I think, don't you?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 2, 2007 Share #37 Posted May 2, 2007 They are very nice and that is the 28 cron . The beach was the 35 lux just FYI the rest are crons
ddp Posted May 2, 2007 Share #38 Posted May 2, 2007 Sorry, but the pictures in the first posts don't look sharp at all - there seems to be a fog that has to be unveiled. Why such pictures as examples for sharpness of Leica lenses? Those are quite characterisitc of the lens...and I wouldn't say they appear unsharp. If anything, they should help reinforce the M8's ability with some of Leica's premier lenses.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 2, 2007 Share #39 Posted May 2, 2007 Oh hell handheld and hung over , maybe. ROTFLMAO This was just from this little trip but i have some that look even sharper, depends on what your shooting too.
