TheGodParticle/Hari Posted July 31, 2014 Share #61 Posted July 31, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) None I think. But normalIy I prefer the black versions, GoodParticle, chrome ones are much heavier. This is esp. pronounced with the SUMMILUX range of lenses. As far as 28mm is concerned I will stick to a CRON for the time being. Best GEORG I'll try to get one but we all know how that goes with a newly launched lens Yes, the chrome ones are indeed heavier but (amongst the newer lenses) the 50LuxASPH, 50 Elmar-M and Elmarit 90 are a pleasure to handle and use, with the same excellent image quality as their black counterparts The 28 cron is a fantastic lens and I will probably prefer to use the 24/1.4 instead but since I haven't shot with the 28/1.4, what do I know All I can say right now is - what a piece of art! Advertisement Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Hi TheGodParticle/Hari, Take a look here I love my 28mm summilux. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
algrove Posted July 31, 2014 Share #62 Posted July 31, 2014 Sure looks to me like the silver finish on the inside of that lens hood could create flare issues. It will be black for me.
farnz Posted August 1, 2014 Share #63 Posted August 1, 2014 Sure looks to me like the silver finish on the inside of that lens hood could create flare issues... I thought the same. The hood looks quite shallow too so I hope the 28 Summilux is as flare-resistant as the 28 Summicron. Pete.
Paul J Posted August 1, 2014 Share #64 Posted August 1, 2014 Agreed, but I'm guessing that hood is for the Ltd Edition glass cabinet queen and would imagine the production model is in line with the newer shape of 21, 24, 35 summilux etc.

TheGodParticle/Hari Posted August 1, 2014 Share #66 Posted August 1, 2014 Could it be the same hood supplied with the m9 titanium limited edition? I'd like a black 12466 for the 28cron but my copy is so flare resistant, I rarely use a hood on it

rramesh Posted August 4, 2014 Share #69 Posted August 4, 2014 Sure looks to me like the silver finish on the inside of that lens hood could create flare issues. It will be black for me. Who cares. The lens is so beautiful that no one will even touch it with their bare hands, leave alone use it. I call this a 'call to auction' product.

Erik Gunst Lund Posted August 4, 2014 Share #71 Posted August 4, 2014 This must be the lens with the least number of aperture values marked on the lens barrel, only three values are given: 1.4 5.6 and 11 IMHO it looks a little funny... dare I say cheap
pop Posted August 4, 2014 Share #72 Posted August 4, 2014 That's only on the DOF scale; the aperture dial has all the values as expected.
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted August 4, 2014 Share #73 Posted August 4, 2014 Somehow you are right, Erik, but it looks "tidier" this way, as far as the graphic appearance of the lensbarrel is concerned. Design has to beat functionality sometimes. And it might be cheaper not to engrave all these figures ... Those who operate the dof-scale frequently know by heart what the abbreviations mean. Erik Gunst Lund Posted August 4, 2014 Share #74 Posted August 4, 2014 Yes it makes for a little less cluttered lens barrel I agree. And of course its just as easy to use, I just found it interesting Looks like 2 and/or 2.8 and/or 4 are often skipped on the current M lenses

Thanks. Could be a deal breaker for me since looking at my 21 and 24/1.4 they have every step and for me with WA lenses that is important to have. Erik Gunst Lund Posted August 4, 2014 Share #76 Posted August 4, 2014 No 21 and 24 1.4 don't have all aperture values engraved on the barrel, they are both missing 2 No worries if you haven't missed them so far 35 1.4 Asph FLE are also missing
algrove Posted August 5, 2014 Share #77 Posted August 5, 2014 No 21 and 24 1.4 don't have all aperture values engraved on the barrel, they are both missing 2 No worries if you haven't missed them so far 35 1.4 Asph FLE are also missing 2 Just checked my 21/1.4 and it has all 8 f stops. Also the 24/1.4 has all 8 f stops engraved too-of course some without number but all 8 f stop lines are there for reference. Let me look at the 35/1.4-it has all 8 stops marked too. I could care about the numbers, I just need the markings. If you are talking numbers there is not enough room for them all on small lenses. Sue seem like there is enough room on the 28/1.4 for either 2.8 or 4 and also 8 and 16. Guess they can crank out one more per day @ US$8k or thereabouts with less machining. CalArts 99 Posted August 5, 2014 Share #78 Posted August 5, 2014 I zone focus a lot (and especially with a 28mm) and although I don't mind so much if all the numbers aren't engraved, it would be nice if the lines were longer. The way they appear in that photo is more like tiny tick marks. I think that they might be hard to see (but probably easier on a black lens with white paint.) I'm also guessing the new 28 Summilux will likely be similar to the current 35 Summilux FLE; i.e., much more about super high resolution and the 'modern clinical' look which seems to be the new direction for Leica lenses. What I like about the 28 Summicron is that while it still has very high sharpness, it also retains the 'classic' and less modern look to the images. IWC Doppel Posted August 5, 2014 Share #79 Posted August 5, 2014 Anyone other than S Reid had a close look at this lens ?
Paul J Posted August 5, 2014 Share #80 Posted August 5, 2014 I think the mass production version will have the standard focus scale and also the newer Summilux hood.
