CheshireCat Posted July 13, 2014 Share #84 Posted July 13, 2014 I took a look over what I think was the "CPU" Diagram for the M240 Image Processor and it seemed like the EVF was driven from a "Dedicated Hardware Block" that was not capable of offering a higher resolution. Can you please post/link that diagram ?
timde Posted July 13, 2014 Share #85 Posted July 13, 2014 I don't have the link, google about Milbeaut (Leica and Fujitsu partnership)... it takes some looking but I came across one generation which matched the M240 specs (sensor MP, buffer size, video capability i.e. 24/5p IIRC ... etc). And the latest generation which I guess might be in the next M is having more buffer/speed and 50/60i video or something like that.
jip Posted July 14, 2014 Share #86 Posted July 14, 2014 You find out about something like this do want to report it on the forums but didn't save the link... Doesn't sound very creditable to me../
timde Posted July 14, 2014 Share #87 Posted July 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry, I don't save a link for you ... google on Milbeaut and pretty soon you find the Generation 6 (current) and Generation 7 (next?) processors. If you understand this kind of thing, even a little, then its interesting to read through. AFAIC Leica have already introduced the updated M240, its the 100y edition. CheshireCat Posted July 14, 2014 Share #88 Posted July 14, 2014 Sorry, I don't save a link for you ... google on Milbeaut and pretty soon you find the Generation 6 (current) and Generation 7 (next?) processors. If you understand this kind of thing, even a little, then its interesting to read through. AFAIC Leica have already introduced the updated M240, its the 100y edition. All I can find on the Internet is marketing documents with a couple generic diagrams. Real datasheets for the Milbeaut 4 are still under Fujitsu NDA. I understand that the "updated M240" is just a cosmetic 500-copies limited edition. Upgrading to a newer Milbeaut generation is not just a matter of plugging in a new chip; it means a major hardware/software redesign hence a new M model. mjh Posted July 14, 2014 Share #89 Posted July 14, 2014 AFAIC Leica have already introduced the updated M240, its the 100y edition. There is no updated M (Typ 240). At some point in the future Leica will introduce a new M (not this year to be sure) and of course it will sport a new, faster CPU. But the M (Typ 240) won’t change. timde Posted July 14, 2014 Share #91 Posted July 14, 2014 Who knows, but for me those diagrams say no new EVF for the M240. And people with better contacts are saying the same things for a long time now so ... the new EVF was released, for now its only on the T, but it will probably plug into the next M. nicolaz Posted July 16, 2014 Share #99 Posted July 16, 2014 Electronic is not like mechanics .. It seems leica is still selling M3.. I'm willing to understand the 2 years life circle per product but when it comes to EVF, firmware etc, few months are ages and people get tired.. As of today, there is nothing like Leica but.. I start to think about the fact that I can be happy with other product too...
