New Monochrom ?

Not sure, but I'm sure that I'll keep using my M9 and MM until:

1. They die

2. I die

3. None of us die, but I can't see.

4. None of us die, I can still just about see, but I can't get about.

5. None of us die, I can still just about see, I can just about get about, but I can't get batteries for them.

As an aside, my dealer sold my M240 for me today. I feel no regret whatsoever regarding its departure. But I am sure I would certainly feel something for the MM, very probably the M9, and very definitely for my MP, should I sell them.

Regarding the M240, only a warm feeling in the trousers and an even warmer feeling in the bank account.

Regards

Strange ... Leica just released the Monochrom in silver, available for general sale. This doesn't seem to be some special edition. Getting rid of existing CCD stock before launching the CMOS version maybe?

It was suggested by leicarumors that the MM silver chrome is indeed a limited production run though not considered a limited edition like the MM stainless steel that is part of the numbered kit. I wonder if that means the X Vario in silver chrome is as well? Both a new X and MM are rumored for Photokina this fall.

If the rumored MM Type 230 is based on the M Type 240 does that mean it will retain its video capabilities? :p

I can't think of a single reason why I'd want wifi capability in a camera like this.

The new Monochrom will NOT have Wi-Fi, this is clear from the entry with the RRA, nor will the future X (Typ 113) have Wi-Fi... RRA is not solely for devices with Wi-Fi capability, this can be seen in registrations for Vario and others (라이카 카메라 코리아㈜ | Digital Camera 인증현황). The third field up from the bottom indicates Wireless capability as can be seen on the T entry (라이카카메라코리아㈜ | 특정소출력 무선기기(무선데이터통신시스템용 무선기기) 인증현황) this field is blank on Monochrom and new X.

As I type this with the M9 beside the keyboard, I weigh up the pros and cons of the MM classic vs. a potential MM 230.

On one hand, I already have spare M9 batteries and another leather half case, which would make the addition of a MM classic very easy. You get CCD rendering and the unique look of the MM.

Prices of the MM classic may come down towards the arrival of the MM 230, assuming you can find one. The 230 would likely be on back order and in short supply for many months after its release, not to mention that some dealers will offer them at 'premium prices' for a while. And we have no idea what the rendering of the MM 230 will be like, or even if they will use CMOS vs. CCD.

On the other hand, a potential MM 230 is likely to be based on the M 240. Much better battery life, quieter shutter, better LCD screen, live view, weatherproofing, more accurate rangefinder, even higher ISO levels, and all the other goodies that the M 240 brings. It can be assumed, at least.

Hmmm...

My Monochrom is my all-time favourite camera and I'm mainly interested in B&W anyhow.

Any decision regarding replacement with the Mononchrom 230/240 (or whatever they call it) would be dependent on output compared with the spectacular files of the current model.

Only if the camera passed that hurdle (and otherwise based on the M240) would it then be very tempting. Especially for the better viewfinder and shutter, option of EVF for hard to focus lenses in low light, but also for better battery life, weather sealing, perhaps further improvements in high-ISO performance, and a more convenient pairing with the M240 for batteries/charger etc (such as I'd had with my Monochrom and M9 pairing).

However, WiFi etc really doesn't interest me.

Every time I see that a camera has WiFi, I get the impression of someone watching YouTube and checking Facebook in the camera LCD.

And with something like the Samsung Galaxy camera, this is probably closer to reality than it seems...
