mrcmrc Posted May 16, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted May 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I'm using a Summilux 50 f/1.4 ASPH from 2010 on my M9, no problem at all until now... when I turn the focus ring sometime I feel a little resistance as of some scratching, this do not happen each time but quite often. Â Any advise? Â Many thanks, - Marco.

TomB_tx Posted May 16, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted May 16, 2014 One of the reasons I prefer the older lenses is their simpler mechanical construction - no FLE - so they develop fewer issues like these. Designs reach a point where added complexity increases potential for problems, either the potential for more things to be off when new, or to need more attention over time. The optical performance improvement may be worth it to some, but not to me. As a result I'm very attracted to the Summarit-M lenses of the current Leica offering. jaapv Posted May 17, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted May 17, 2014 This one can happen to any lens. The FLE mechanism is too deep inside the lens to be affected by grains of sand.

Summarit-M lenses can be very appreciable for some (they have an impressive sharpness, and a contrast that is someway too high) : to be honest, my only leica lens (bought new) that suffered of a mechanical problem has been the Summarit 75... a looseness of the front part... cheaply fixed by a local technician.. but anyway it happened.
