On may the 3rd I flew up to Newcastle NSW in Australia with some friends to photograph coal trains.

I took my Canon DSLR and Leica R8 with the 28-90mm vario and some rolls of film.

These shots where taken with the R8, 28-90mm- Provia 100 F slide film.

Newcastle coal trains weight around 10,000 tonnes and all export for Japan and China.

And run about every 20 minutes to the shipping docks.

It's obvious who is keeping China's industry going.

Hello Ken,

Nice photos.

Have you ever looked @ or/& considered Posting in the "Faszination Eisenbahn" Thread in the "Technik & Industrie" section of the German Language part of this Forum? You don't have to read or write in German to Post there. Just as people sometimes write in German in the English Language Section. Especially in Photo Threads like "Technology & Industry".

Best Regards,

Michael

Ken,

These are all excellent pictures. I like the classic look of the first picture but would improve it by cloning out the pipe fencepost in the lower right corner. To me, it's an unnecessary distraction.

Hello Michael and Paul.

Thank you for your kind words Michael, never thought of trying it on the German forum, I will give it a try.

Paul once again thank you for your expertice, and you're right, I have cropped the picture as you requested and it certainly looks better.

It's a pity I didn't take my 80-200 with me as well, as the 28-90 mm was a little bit short at times.

I have re- cropped them as you suggested, and here is three of them.
