epand56 Posted May 9, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 9, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Last Monday, after seven year of M8 use, I broke the piggy bank and bought a brand new M Typ 240. Anything looked normal and I was so excited that I didn't take care to check too much on my new toy. When back home got rid of the UV/IR file from all my lens and began trying to shoot the camera. After several actuations something were not convincing me. I expected a better performance from such an expensive object. It was like buying an Aston Martin and discover that has the performance of a Nissan. I couldn't really catch the correct focus. And anybody on the forum were saying that focusing the M is even easier than the M8. Another step and I discovered that no lens could be focused in the patch at infinite. I mean I could focus on very close object with the wide lenses, but beyond 5-10 meters I couldn't get any sharp focus, not even with my Summilux 35/1.4 Asph! It was really stinking of misalignment. So I mounted my Elmar 135/4 and shot some more pictures. No focus at all. I couldn't see a sharp image in the patch. The two images were not on the same level. I could focus a close object, but when looking at the picture on Lightroom it was not properly focused. A nightmare, my friends. Yesterday i was desperate. I could already see that long sad trip to Solms for my beloved camera when decided to phone call my dealer. I explained the problem with all details and, well, they told me they would change the Leica. Today I went to the shop, they had a try on the camera and agreed on the misalignment. Took another camera and this time we had a prolonged check. It was perfect. And now is here with me and I'm an happy man. And yes, focusing is a joy. Anybody else here experienced this? Of course, RF misalignment might have happened between Germany and your dealer if the camera suffered an impact (but how likely is that in the packaging). Still not very good though, is it? However, at least your dealer did the decent thing and replaced your M immediately. Thankfully you didn't have to endure the faulty one being sent back to Wetzlar.......and pleased for you that you can now hopefully enjoy your new M. Mladen I had a Summilux 35/1.4 Asph when purchasing and didn't notice immediately the misalignment. It took me a long lens to be sure. In the future, should I buy another Leica of the M series, i will take a 90mm with me, you can bet The dealer has been very correct, and this makes of him a quite reputable dealer.
