Can someone tell me, it is possible to turn off the Leica R-E? I have been traveling once and I put the camera in a bag. I did always wonder afterwards, why did the batteries became so fast empty. It is simply, because the release button went always on - when it did touch something. It is really so, that you can't turn the Leica R-E off? With the Leica R8 for example you can turn it off. But what about the Leica R-E?

Chose the >>X<<, >>B<< or >>100<< setting and try out if the battery still behaves

the same and gets drained. At these settings the camera meter is definetely off.

On all other settings you risk battery drain in case the releasebutton is pressed accidentally.

If it still drains, bad luck. The camera should then be beyond a sensible repair.

Well, I do not think so.

Your camera developed a fault, unfortunatedly. Don' t blame the engineer,

blame the technician who put it together, or better still blame the sea climate

in which your camera (probably) got spoiled.

BTW, welcome to the forum, GOOFY, and please do post some photographs in

the LUF-photosections when you get around the problem with your R-E.

Thanks for the feedbacks. Well, even if I set the camera to X, B or 100 settings - and I touch release button, the light meter goes on. I think the only solution is to remove the batteries. Bad engineers from Leica.

Well, it is not exactly a new camera.... I don't blame the Lord when my body breaks down - not at my age.:(

Take it the positive way... at least, your battery is easy to reach and remove... in my '71 Zeiss Contarex (which also drains battery through continuous metering... something wrong on the button activated by movement of the film advance lever) the battery is located under the reflex mirror, secured with a metal frame to be opened with a proper tool... taking care not to touch and scratch the mirror... Engineers from Zeiss used to be superfine... but loved complications... :o
