pedaes Posted May 2, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Robert White are no longer Leica dealers and have their remaining stock at sale prices. Not a great range and not that cheap, but may be of interest to some members.

IWC Doppel Posted May 3, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 3, 2014 Robert White are no longer Leica dealers and have their remaining stock at sale prices. Not a great range and not that cheap, but may be of interest to some members. Not much left and nothing at a price that's worth a second glance in my view, shame Robert White were a very big dealer, however I never liked their pay in full upfront policy for a lens when Leica delivery times were 6-12m.... Guest Mr. B Posted May 4, 2014 Share #4 Posted May 4, 2014 I used to watch their videos on YouTube. It is a shame another long established camera store bites the dust. Mr. B
NJH Posted May 4, 2014 Share #5 Posted May 4, 2014 They have moved round the corner into nicer premises but I guess may or may not be changing their focus. They happily took my Zeiss 50 Planar in for warranty work with Zeiss last Friday. To be honest it always seemed a bit odd to me they where Leica dealers as the setup was very much for mail order, the first time I went over there a couple of years back the 'store front' was just a door and plain counter into their unit. Recently however before the move it was much nicer but still of course a unit tucked down the back of a trading estate. Is this a sign of the retail direction for Leica? Boutiques in big cities only? 250swb Posted May 4, 2014 Share #7 Posted May 4, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is this a sign of the retail direction for Leica? I doubt it. Robert White's were always unrelentingly top price, always unrelentingly wanting your money before they order the goods in, and were always unrelentingly happy to smarm the customer. On the other hand any other Leica dealer I have encountered have been happy to order goods because you asked and without any deposit, and are generally happy to match realistically cheaper prices. Jeff S Posted May 4, 2014 Share #8 Posted May 4, 2014 I doubt it. I don't know the place, but based on this and other posts, they certainly don't model some of the terrific dealers I've come to know. But as far as general direction, if it were up to Leica, it seems to me that winnowing down their retail suppliers to boutiques (or at least as a majority venue) is exactly their preference. Apple influences abound. And while many great dealers still exist, others have bitten the dust, and the correlation with the rise of boutiques seems more than coincidental. I live in a city without a dominant Leica customer base. But a local dealer, one that displays superior customer service and business practices, has always been willing to satisfy customer demand as needed, keeping a modest inventory in stock, and able to quickly (in Leica years) access items not stocked. But now with a boutique store opening an hour away, there is really no sound business reason for this dealer to stock Leica gear, and that's the way it's evolved. I don't think this is a unique story. Jeff
masjah Posted May 4, 2014 Share #9 Posted May 4, 2014 I've used Robert White on several occasions for various (non-Leica) accessories, and actually I've always found them to be incredibly helpful, going way beyond what might reasonably be expected of them. (Of course they are not the only dealers to do that; my usual Leica dealer, Red Dot, being another such example.)

I've used Robert White for many years and always found them to be informed and helpful. On several occasions they have gone way beyond the norm in terms of support and service. True professionals and a fount of knowledge.
NJH Posted May 5, 2014 Share #11 Posted May 5, 2014 Well for me it is or was simple, its the only place near to home I could actually go to and look at this stuff. Comparing a 40 minute drive to a 2 1/2 hour one you start to get into mail order territory which I am less comfortable with.
