hlockwood Posted April 29, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted April 29, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M9-P up for sale in the classifieds, and I've attracted a potential buyer. However, I received a note from a forum moderator that this person is a scammer and to avoid the transaction. I have put a request in to the Leica Camera Forum (Andreas) for details, but the time zone difference is complicating communication. Â The buyer's name is xxxxxx. He is proposing an unusual Paypal method of completing the sale. Has anyone here had any dealings with suchan individual ? Â When I read the security details provided by Paypal, I can see more weaknesses in the protection of sellers than there are for buyers. And since this is my very first Paypal transaction (except for paying for the ad,) I'm leery about proceeding. Â A private message from a known member (poster) would be much appreciated. DigitalHeMan Posted April 29, 2014 Share #2  Posted April 29, 2014 A moderator warning and an unusual form of PayPal sounds like enough reason not to go through with it. I also don't have those initials   Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

LUF Admin Posted April 30, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted April 30, 2014 This scammer registered the third time to the forum and the classifieds. And for the third time he contacted all or almost all advertisers and told the same story. Thus I'm 100% sure that this is a scammer, therefore I warned all advertisers. Â Please believe me. Really. Â Another thing is to publish personal data about anyone in the forum - regardless it's another member, a Leica employee or a suspect. In this case it's very unlikely that this guy used his real name - and there are innocent people having this name (and much more with his initials). Â Thanks Andreas

Do you know of anyone who has actually made a sale to this individual? Jaap does have a point about evidence.  For unrelated reasons, I happen to have a legitimate reason for postponing any transaction, and I related this to Mr. xxxxx. He took it in stride, and we agreed to resume negotiations when I returned home from a several day journey.  Harry

hlockwood Posted May 7, 2014 Author Share #9 Â Posted May 7, 2014 I sent off a note this morning to Mr. xxxxx informing him that the sale would have to be cash only, no Paypal intermediary. Shortly after, I received a notice that the email address of Mr. xxxxx has been disabled. Â HFL
M. Valdemar Posted May 8, 2014 Share #10 Â Posted May 8, 2014 The very fact that you replied to him with the cash offer indicates that you are gullible, and you actually believed there was a chance that the deal might go through. Â You should have instantly ignored it. Â Classic victim behavior. Â If you don't instantly comprehend when something is ridiculous, you don't realize your limitations. You shouldn't be buying or selling expensive things online. Â It is inevitable that you are going to lose money eventually.
