The best m strap idea...for me anyway

Here we have my black M with RRS baseplate and L bracket, to which is attached an RRS clamp made specifically for a strap. Now I like this a lot because I can quickly remove the strap if I like by removing the clamp from the L bracket, and I also like the way I can sling strap over a shoulder or around the neck and the way the camera hangs vertically. Everyone has different ideas about this matter of accessories, but this soution works great for me and I do love Really Right Stuff stuff.

I really agree that RRS makes great accessories, and extremely useful, even if you only use a tripod 10% of the time. I would send this on to RRS and perhaps make the suggestion so the strap connections be wider.

The knob is actually a great grip for the camera. Very secure and steadying. And no, it does not get in my nose...

Do you stick the knob in your mouth (so to speak) when holding the camera vertically?

...I honestly thought one of the major draws of the M system was size.

It is and on this pic, it's still small doesn't add that much bulk I'd say... still loads smaller than a Canon 5D with some random lens.

Nothing beats that knob and mount as an item to hold and steady the camera with whether it's up to the eye or just held in the hand. People who think this arrangement is odd clearly have not tried it.
