helohe Posted June 2, 2014 Share #121 Posted June 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) My wishlist for fixes would be (from highest to lowest priority): 1. auto iso in manual mode 2. change ev with just a press of ev button (instead of holding it) 3. option to disable or reassign movie button 4. remember exposure bracketing settings after power off and sleep 5. faster wake up time from sleep 6. custom lens profiles (eg. for non-leica lenses) 7. under some circumstances it happened that black and white mode is not selectable, fix that 8. option to switch off auto-brightness of lcd (light sensor gets confused if used with a case which partially obstructs sensor)

pieterpronk Posted June 2, 2014 Share #122 Posted June 2, 2014 A quick info for all of you waiting desperately: In a few days Leica will finish the new Leica M (Type 240) firmware. Our Leica Forum beta tester will have a short and intense field test - and if no severe bugs show up the firmware will be released. Are we to conclude that severe bugs did indeed show up? Poor Dieter the lone student Leica firmware programmer must have been devastated. Another whole evening wasted programming in his spare time. Maybe he should give up like he did with the M9 and the MM...
swamiji Posted June 3, 2014 Share #123 Posted June 3, 2014 Are we to conclude that severe bugs did indeed show up? Poor Dieter the lone student Leica firmware programmer must have been devastated. Another whole evening wasted programming in his spare time. Maybe he should give up like he did with the M9 and the MM... I remember that beta test, the Rodney Dangerfield of beta tests. The reason I won't do another one for Leica. No respect.
jto555 Posted June 3, 2014 Share #124 Posted June 3, 2014 Beta testing is great if your shots are not critical. You get to play with some new features and have an imput () into the final version. However, if you earn your living from the camera or, are taking unrepeatable photographs then you are taking a chance with beta firmware. So while I am looking forward to the new firmware, in the hope it knocks the ‘lock-up’ issue on the head, I am happy to wait until all the bugs are sorted out. pieterpronk Posted June 8, 2014 Share #128 Posted June 8, 2014 Imagine how long it would take Leica to release a firmware update if they would fix the less severe bugs as well...
tookaphotoof Posted June 8, 2014 Share #129 Posted June 8, 2014 Imagine how much more relaxed you'd be out on the streets shooting away with your camera if you just realised you can still shoot amazingly beautiful photos without the firmware update. It will come eventually...
pieterpronk Posted June 8, 2014 Share #130 Posted June 8, 2014 eventually... Don't be too sure. That's what we thought about the MM and M9 firmware update. It never came. Oh and if we'd all be enjoying our perfectly capable smartphone camera's shooting perfectly ok pictures all the time there wouldn't be much of a forum here. But there is a time for photographing and a time for many other things one of them is to relax and post on this forum. As it seems you've found out yourself. But if you are not happy with AWB, it is fairly easy to create your own profile for the camera via XRite or other methods.
tookaphotoof Posted June 8, 2014 Share #133 Posted June 8, 2014 Not too sure about that any more Pieter. In general I never cared for firmware upgrades as I already found my own way around it. It's the GAS disease you get on a forum like this, AND that kills my bank account. M6, MP, M240, various lenses and now I have a terrible GAS for a Summilux 35mm FLE and a Monochrom. To prevent me from getting broke, I should immediately stop reading this forum and stop looking at photos from others...

No. You need to submit to your base instincts and go get that Monochrom and 35 Summilux right now. You know you want to. You know you need to You know you have to. It's the only way to ease the pain that eats at your soul. Give yourself completely to the irresistible seduction of the Monochrom succubus. It's her or the wife - the ultimate zugzwang - but you will choose the Monochrom. Don't fight it. You can't fight it. You can't win. Ever! because it's only a matter of time... swamiji Posted June 8, 2014 Share #136 Posted June 8, 2014 Someday there will be a firmware upgrade. But if you are not happy with AWB, it is fairly easy to create your own profile for the camera via XRite or other methods. Ok, let me explain. I went to wedding, and snapped a few shots. Yes, it was mixed lighting, but I had been to this room last year, with my M9 and everything was perfect. With the M240, everything was a mess, one shot it was too blue, another shot it was too yellow. The camera could not make up it's mind. Now, a profile would help a consistent white balance, but it would not help having a different WB with each shot. But with a camera that has been on the market for over a year, and acknowledge by Adobe, C1, Apple, etc. to be supported, should we need to do a profile? If the color profiles from C1, Apple, Adobe are so bad, why are we not sharing profiles to correct this? If this was a serious issue, then I would expect we would be talking about it, like we did when the camera first shipped?
tookaphotoof Posted June 8, 2014 Share #137 Posted June 8, 2014 I do admit my whitebalance is not always that great, but luckily I haven't come across a photo I couldn't save, albeit with a bit more work than needed. Mark, my wife says she doesn't know you and I shouldn't listen to that rubbish anyways. Money would be far better spend on a couple holidays and a nice bikini top for her... Odd - this is the reverse of my experience working with the M under variable stage lighting. I find it consistently better in auto WB than the M9 and have to spend much less getting things right in post.

This was more like a fashion show, with a long runway down the middle, the lighting on the main stage was warmer than at the other end of the runway. Every photo was off, depending on which end of the runway I was pointing. I took a manual WB and it was fine for the one spot, but AWB was needed for the event. I am glad I was not doing the wedding professionally,...
