jaapv Posted June 25, 2014 Share #283 Posted June 25, 2014 This is the Leica M240 firmware and not a new camera off course ! Very nice firmware too :)
Herr Barnack Posted June 25, 2014 Share #284 Posted June 25, 2014 Oh. I thought they meant this year...
pop Posted June 25, 2014 Share #285 Posted June 25, 2014 Every other year. Last year and next year; never this year. Just kidding.
Herr Barnack Posted June 25, 2014 Share #286 Posted June 25, 2014 If that is the case, firmware releases must sort of be Leica's version of the Olympics with a two year rotation rather than four.
tookaphotoof Posted June 25, 2014 Share #287 Posted June 25, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Gosh! I'll have a new firmware to play with during my coming holiday, next month? You must be kidding me! [emoji3]
rafikiphoto Posted June 25, 2014 Share #288 Posted June 25, 2014 Gosh! I'll have a new firmware to play with during my coming holiday, next month? You must be kidding me! [emoji3] If you have a once-in-a-lifetime event upcoming better let the first-adopters try it out before updating your camera. A Fujifilm firmware update for one of the X-series cameras had, apparently, been extensively beta tested but when released knackered a significant number of cameras. Annoyingly it wasn't possible for them to revert to the earlier firmware. It took a few weeks for a revised update to be released to fix the snafu. tookaphotoof Posted June 25, 2014 Share #289 Posted June 25, 2014 I'm not too worried about that. Will happily be an early adopter so you can see how it works for me, or not... My main cameras are the MP and M6, not the M240.

Annoyingly it wasn't possible for them to revert to the earlier firmware. It took a few weeks for a revised update to be released to fix the snafu. There have been plenty of early adopters using it for weeks now in the form of our betatesters. I find it pretty good.

Not as many testers as Fuji's team I'd wager...They found theirs pretty good too. It can be luck of the draw, my Fuji camera was fine, many others weren't. Rick Posted June 25, 2014 Share #293 Posted June 25, 2014 It doesn't surprise me a bit that the FW hasn't even been released, yet we are already reading internet reports of concerns here.
Chito Posted June 25, 2014 Share #294 Posted June 25, 2014 Today is the 28th day of the 5th month on the Chinese calendar so by that count they're just a little bit late I prefer not to be a nagger and I definitely want Leica to get it right (take as long as they need). But that doesn't mean I'm not checking here 4 times a day just in case it has been released. It's especially hard since there have been insinuations from the beginning of "surprises". It just sounds so magical and enticing.
tookaphotoof Posted June 25, 2014 Share #295 Posted June 25, 2014 You need to check 4 times a day because as of this firmware, your camera is completely useless?
rafikiphoto Posted June 25, 2014 Share #296 Posted June 25, 2014 It doesn't surprise me a bit that the FW hasn't even been released, yet we are already reading internet reports of concerns here. If you are referring to my original post I mentioned firmware in general and the risk of updating a camera just before a 'mission critical' event. I also gave an example of one Fuji FW update and the problems that occurred even after substantial beta testing. That sort of thing may or may not happen in this case, I hope that it will not, but it was not a whinge, moan or criticism of Leica merely an observation. Chito Posted June 25, 2014 Share #297 Posted June 25, 2014 You need to check 4 times a day because as of this firmware, your camera is completely useless? Oh not at all!, I've actually been pretty lucky in the problem department. I just like new and shiny things
lct Posted June 25, 2014 Share #298 Posted June 25, 2014 My last Fuji firmware update worked perfectly and the next Leica one will do the same given the time some of us spent on it hopefully...

genefama Posted June 26, 2014 Share #300 Posted June 26, 2014 Interesting that leicarumors.com hasn't run anything about this supposed June 30th date. Maybe after the May 23rd prediction they don't want to be wrong again.
