erl Posted June 15, 2014 Share #221 Posted June 15, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have no particular trouble focussing my 90 Cron pre-asph. I do however find the 75 cron Asph to be the hardest lens to focus in the Leica range, incl. the f1.0 noct. It may have something to do with my technique, which often demands I focus quickly, but I nail the Noct better than the 75.

Jeff S Posted June 15, 2014 Share #222 Posted June 15, 2014 . It may have something to do with my technique, which often demands I focus quickly, but I nail the Noct better than the 75. Maybe shorter focus throw (75 Summicron) versus long throw (Noctilux)?…or so I've read elsewhere. Of course focal length (or your samples) may be a factor. My particular samples are spot on for adjustment. I am very picky about that and they do check out as accurate on exhaustive testing.

Strangely enough, I find the shorter throw of the 0.95 Noctilux much easier to focus than I used to with the very long throw of the 1.0 Noctilux. I used to run out of twiddle and have to take a second bite on the older Nocti. I can nearly always get the 0.95 right with one movement. It may be also that I find the form factor of the 0.95 much more comfortable to hold for my old hands. Wilson

On my f1.0 Noct I find the use of a "Steer" to be mandatory. This makes the otherwise very narrow focussing ring easily found and operated. Without it, I would sell my Noct. But then there is also the human brain with all it's complexities. Sometimes I wonder that I can ever use a camera effectively. I think 'speed' of use may be the key factor because given time, none of the Leica lenses are really difficult to focus, if your vision and the light are reasonable. farnz Posted June 15, 2014 Share #229 Posted June 15, 2014 I find the steer essential for my Noctilux f/1.0 too although its looks aren't for the faint-hearted. It's function before form in my book. Pete.

pico Posted June 15, 2014 Share #232 Posted June 15, 2014 In days gone by there was a rule of thumb that there was one bug for every ten lines of production COBOL code (that is, code actually in use). Does anyone know if the craft has advanced with more modern compilers, coding practices, etc? Exodies Posted June 15, 2014 Share #233 Posted June 15, 2014 Ok, here's another requirement for the new firmware - it should be written in Swift. Shouldn't take a jiffy.
pico Posted June 15, 2014 Share #234 Posted June 15, 2014 Ok, here's another requirement for the new firmware - it should be written in Swift. Shouldn't take a jiffy. With respect, IMHO, Leica is not likely to implement their firmware in an open source paradigm. Leica is not smart enough to wrap its head around the idea. More later. drdannn Posted June 16, 2014 Share #236 Posted June 16, 2014 Guess what everyone. I read earlier in this 10 page thread that Leica is coming out with a firmware upgrade on May 24th. That's only 341 days from now. How exiting.

digitalfx Posted June 23, 2014 Share #240 Posted June 23, 2014 Just wondering - what happened to the M firmware update that was supposed to be released on May 24? Any news?? The "May 24" date was from a rumor site...it wasn't an actual date. If you read back a few pages in this thread to post 174 you'll find info from the admin...the beta is evidently being tested currently, so it sounds like its not far off: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-type-240/329427-new-firmware-may-24th-9.html#post2713979
