alexc Posted April 25, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just singned up for trial version of zenfolio (http://www.zenfolio.com). Looks like a good tool, however on Mac it is not very stable, at least for me. Is somebody using this portal? Any comments. Â Thank you in advance

mfphoto Posted April 25, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 25, 2007 I recently signed up for Zenfolio and like it for the most part (the link to my site is in my profile). I am also on a Mac and have had no stability issues. What browser are you using? Â The only thing I wish they had was a more customizable front page, but supposedly they are working on that. Otherwise I have been pleased with the service thus far...
Guest sirvine Posted April 25, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted April 25, 2007 If you're up for getting your hands a little bit dirty, pixelpost is a very flexible showcase software. If you can handle a little CSS editing (not exactly rocket science), get your own hosting provider and domain and you're up and running. Â The advantage is that you can choose the size of the images and the layout to your heart's content. Also, I'm not a fan of Flash in any form whatsoever, so I prefer working with good old CSS/HTML. Â Most of the customization I did to my site was stripping out features from the pixelpost templates that I didn't want (e.g., viewer comments). Â The only expense is the hosting, which can be had for as little as $8 / month (maybe even less in some cases).
dfarkas Posted April 25, 2007 Share #4  Posted April 25, 2007 I like Google's Picasa Web Albums. Uploading from Picasa is super easy and the interface isn't bad.  Price: free  Current disk space is just over 1GB per user, but this increases almost daily.  It also links directly to Blogger, so you don't have to double-post pictures when blogging.  Google seems to do a lot of things very well, and may end up ruling the world one day. I'm still rather baffled as to how you make money giving away everything for free, but who am I to complain.  David
gilles_lorin Posted April 26, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted April 26, 2007 I signed up a month ago with them and I have not experienced any problems so far with mac/safari. Although safari has been acting up a bit recently...
innerimager Posted April 26, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted April 26, 2007 I've been using it for a month or so, and like it (MacPro, Safari). For $40 /year you get unlimited storage. I like just loading my full resolution files and having Zenfolio produce the smaller display images. Also, customer support has been extremely responsive and helpful. ...Peter Zenfolio | Peter Halperin

innerimager Posted April 26, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted April 26, 2007 by the way- on my Zenfolio site, the gallery "Bob's 80th" was with the M8. All others with Nikon DSLR's of various stripes. Mostly using the 28/2.8 asph. the first few with the 50/1.4 asph. Bob Leffert is an excellent photographer getting a real following on St. John's where he spends 1/2 the year. bill vann Posted April 26, 2007 Share #9  Posted April 26, 2007 i'm actually quite disappointed with zenfolio. at $40 i joined, figuring how bad can it be. i have had and still have problems with embedding photos into sites, eg DP.  haven't done a lot but my user experience to date is poor, just trying to get it sorted out  i am looking at alternates.  Zenfolio | Bill Van Ollefen  bill vann
johnbuckley Posted April 26, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted April 26, 2007 I think Zenfolio is by far the best public gallery software I have ever used. I love it. JB
Guest sirvine Posted April 26, 2007 Share #11  Posted April 26, 2007 Anyone looking for an alternative should really check out what people are doing with pixelpost.... PPOTW Winners - Pixelpost Forum  The most recent featured pixelpost showcase is here (and pretty impressive, if you ask me)...Montreal Photo - PhotoBlog of Julien Roumagnac : Organic Volcano (parc Oka)  Personally, zenfolio's advertising, small image sizes and slow loads drive me nuts. mfphoto Posted April 26, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted April 26, 2007 sirvine - the pixelpost software you have linked to looks rather impressive. but it seems like it is a lot more work than zenfolio. Â the thing i like about zenfolio is how quickly and easily you can get your photos uploaded and organized. also, i believe zenfolioi is only about a year old, so it can only get better... Guest stnami Posted April 28, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted April 28, 2007 I checked zenfolio before and yea nice stuff Sol I am not sure that I would be dead keen on having 240 dpi, 950 pixel across images lifted from a site so easily. I will stick with my mob,,,,,,,, http://www.foliosnap.com/and my artouko space

I never have a problem with this feature (now I've figured that bit out!) and actually find that the ready made choice of sizes makes it the most useful site for embedding.  Overall, with the exception of the lack of flexibility over the choice of layout in terms of having a large image appear at the head of each gallery, I find it far superior to any similar site I've used.  Best  Tim
tashley Posted April 28, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted April 28, 2007 Â Personally, zenfolio's advertising, small image sizes and slow loads drive me nuts. Â Â Small images size? You can upload and display images at full 100% size, as long as the file is 10mb or less, which any M8 images saved as an HQ JPEG will be. It's one of the bet reasons to use the site! Fotomiguel Posted April 30, 2007 Share #16 Â Posted April 30, 2007 For me zenfolio is a great Web! you can configure it easily and you choose the resolution and later you can send invitation or pictures with more or less resolution. You can keep your images save and you may let them down load or not. Some of the galleries you can or some of them not. Even you can configure every picture individually. You may have a private gallerie with a special login just for family or private fotos and just your family can visit them. For me one of the best things is the Slideshow, which permet to see to anybody with great quality the pictures and anybody can choose the speed and manual or automatic and the background. Cheers! rob_x2004 Posted May 4, 2007 Share #18 Â Posted May 4, 2007 I think the 'instability' problems with zenfolio are more likely to be related to your connection and data flow?
bill vann Posted May 7, 2007 Share #19 Â Posted May 7, 2007 Hi Tim, Â While there were hiccups on my side with embedding photos, i still continue to have problems embedding them off and on and sometimes they'll be okay for a couple hours, then die. Â too much on my plate right now to deal with this stuff. post spinal surgery i'll be laid up quite a while and have 3 things to work on, a selling show in Nov i've been invited to , digital asset management and final a website or sorting a hosting solution i like and then populating it. Â to me the jury is still out on zenfolio though. Â btw, did get the panny lx2 and used it at my daughters wedding. used properly it does well especially with sufficient light but still searching a better alternative, maybe the M8 is the best i can do. tashley Posted May 7, 2007 Share #20 Â Posted May 7, 2007 Hiya Bill! Â I'm sorry to hear that about Zen, I've never lost a link but it can be slow and I understand they're doing something about that. Â The Lx2 is just as you describe: useful but not really the ideal long-term solution. Manufacturers are missing a trick here, especially with Canon stopping RAW functionality in their high-end P&S cameras. Â Sorry to hear about the back, hope recovery continues apace!
