Adam,

Great sports set. Like all good sports photographers, pre-focus, anticipate the action and hey bingo! Love ‘em. Beyonce’s nice too.

Best wishes,

Charlie

Isn’t the 135/4 Tele-Elmar great - it’s almost as good as the 135/3.4 APO. I’m not sure it’s 60 years old though - more like 30. The older 135/4 Elmars are of that vintage though.

These pictures are terrific. The notion that Leicas can't do sports photography is - by this evidence - nonsense.

... or even faster moving action

Great sports shots. I actually feel that a good manual camera is a much more successful tool for this type of job than an auto one which can't keep up with the action. The very short shutter lag really helps and for me is the major reason why I managed to get those two red arrows crossing. Chimped the first few attempts on the screen and from that worked out when to trigger the shutter to try and get them crossing, even a slightly longer shutter lag would have resulted in that point being way out of frame and thus almost impossible to judge.

Many thanks again to all who have taken the time to respond.

NJH - thanks for shari your action shot. It is really cool.

Charlie - i have traced my tele elmar to one of the first batches from 1965, which makes it nearly 50 years old. So i was indeed of by a decade :)

All the very best, adam

I never understood why the 135mm went out of fashion!

I always loved it, specially at 5.6 or 8... I am not a great fan of extremely out of focus images. I know some just look great, but very often they are just too soft on my opinion, I like to understand the surroundings of the main action. If I really want out of focus background, I prefer to choose longer lenses.

Isn't it amazing how terrific some old Leitz lenses can be?

Great Job! Congratulations!
