Tony C. Posted April 26, 2007 Share #24 Â Posted April 26, 2007 I've spent the past couple of days attempting to find a 75mm Summicron here is the U.S., and while it certainly wasn't easy, I have found a dealer who has them in stock. If anyone else is seeking a new, coded 75 2.0, feel free to e-mail me and I'll send you a link. Â Regards, Â Tony C. teehas53 Posted April 26, 2007 Share #25  Posted April 26, 2007 Wow, the 75 cron looks great!... I'm in the process of gettting a 75 lux. I wonder if i should consider the Cron. Is it closer focusing, sharper, lighter, less expensive, better balanced. But just not as fast? Could someone please convince me that the 75 lux is the way to go? Thanks, Tim  Tim - Sounds like you just convinced yourself to go with the Cron... I got one for all the reasons you list, and have absolutely no regrets - an amazing lens! I know there are a lot of fast-lens fans here on the forum, but really, how often will you shoot a 75 at f1.4? Especially since the Cron is UNBELIEVABLE wide open at f2...  Tom
jaapv Posted April 26, 2007 Share #26 Â Posted April 26, 2007 Actually, I tend to use my Summilux 75 as far open as possible. Mostly at 1.4, because that is where the character of the lens lies. Â
Eoin Posted April 26, 2007 Share #27  Posted April 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wow, the 75 cron looks great! They have one at my local camera shop. I'm in the process of gettting a 75 lux. I wonder if i should consider the Cron. Is it closer focusing, Sharper, Lighter, less expensive , better balanced. But,just not as fast? Could someone please convince me that the 75 lux is the way to go? Thanks, Tim  Tim,  It depends what your looking for in a lens, I have the cron and seriously regret not getting the lux. While the cron is a superb lens I find the sharpness and look of the Asph less than flattering if your subject has less than perfect skin. The Lux while still sharp seems to have a glow that the cron doesn't. Their fingerprint is so different wide open but by f/5.6 so close. If your shooting B&W then perhaps the balance would shift in favour of the cron.  Here is an Image I had posted in the photo forum taken with the 75 cron @ f/2.8, it is a fantastic lens but not to my taste, Welcome, dear visitor! carstenw Posted April 26, 2007 Share #28  Posted April 26, 2007 As Eoin says, the Cron is a fantastic lens, one of the nearly perfect lenses out there, but it doesn't have the same magic that the Lux has. I was also on the way to the Cron, but ended up picking up a Lux instead, and I love this lens. I still dream of the Cron as well, but I am very happy with the Lux. Wide open, it is a dream for portraits, and stopped down one or two stops, it is very, very sharp, even if it is not at the Cron level. Here is a portrait from before I got my filter. (I am having trouble getting the white balance right) and the baby is clearly cuter and the light in that image better, but nonetheless, one can see the incredibly creamy bokeh here. I will post another shot with filter when I get a good one, since I got the filter meanwhile. Welcome, dear visitor! I think you answered your own question.  I'd go with the cron if I had my choice.  The lux gives you f/1.4 but every other criteria seems to favor the cron.  Good luck.  JT

Leicamateur Posted April 27, 2007 Share #31 Â Posted April 27, 2007 The pictures made with the cron I have seen so far totally convinced me and are to my liking. I will definitely safe up my money for that one, this will be my next Leica lens

Leicamateur Posted April 27, 2007 Share #38 Â Posted April 27, 2007 If you are asking me, I used f/1.4. Â Thank you Cindy, yes I was asking you Very nice portrait and beautiful granddaughter indeed! I hope to have some children in the near future so I can post my photos as well. Â But now I'm getting unsure again about my future purchase. I wanted a 75 cron... but your photo with 75 lux strikes me as well... can't decide which to get. Btw... I couldn't find prices for the 75 lux in some shops.... how much is the lux more expensive than the cron?
Eoin Posted April 27, 2007 Share #39  Posted April 27, 2007 Marc,  don't even dream of buying the Lux new, I think full retail is nearly €3000 where as a mint mint version without code can be picked up on ebay for €1200-1600.  The Cron rarely comes up for sale 2nd hand, but expect to pay €1800 ish or €2100-2200 new. Leicamateur Posted April 27, 2007 Share #40  Posted April 27, 2007 Eoin,  second hand or new, I'm dreaming anyway at the moment I just bought my M7 with Elmar 50mm, both new so I got a really big hole in my wallet now  I definitely want a 75mm for portraitures, maybe after summer if I can save enough money until then. wow.. 3000 euros for new lux... ouch. I gotta check out my local Leica shop, they have a quite big range of second hand lenses. I guess eventually I will stick with the cron, I like sharp and clear portraitures with a nice creamy Leica bokeh... but on the other hand the lux also has its very special touch with wide aperture...  I hate Leica... for making such good lenses and such
