mirekti Posted March 24, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been using the M for almost a year, and today I noticed two small dust particles behind the front element of the viewfinder. This doesn't bother me as I don't see them while foucsing, however, I wondered how they came up there. Will the rangefinder get dustier with the time? Could it be that the dust roamed inside the camera, and eventually ended up in the viewfinder? The only thing I'm sure of, they weren't there before. jdlaing Posted March 24, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 24, 2014 Do you use a rocket blower to clean the sensor?
edwardkaraa Posted March 24, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 24, 2014 My brand-new M also has two dust particles that were there since I bought it a month ago. My M9 also had a couple of these. Slightly annoying but no big deal.
250swb Posted March 24, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 24, 2014 Do you use a rocket blower to clean the sensor? Good point about the Rocket Blower (or compressed air), nobody knows where the dust goes and it is just as likely to go further into the camera as anywhere else. JPizzzle Posted March 24, 2014 Share #5 Posted March 24, 2014 I had the same issue with my former m9p. There was dust before I sent it to be upgrade, and after. Strange considering I asked them to remove it. Ultimately, I had to send the camera back for peeling vulcanite and leica removed the dust for good on that trip. mirekti Posted March 24, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted March 24, 2014 Do you use a rocket blower to clean the sensor? I do. It could be it. I would expect the VF is somehow sealed, though.
jdlaing Posted March 24, 2014 Share #7 Posted March 24, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I do. It could be it. I would expect the VF is somehow sealed, though. Not entirely sealed. A rocket blower has enough pressure to blow dirt and dust into the tiniest opening. If you can't see them while focusing I would not let it bother you. marknorton Posted March 24, 2014 Share #8 Posted March 24, 2014 I once made the mistake of using a can of compressed air to clear dust from a Nikon D2X. All it succeeded in doing was blowing the dust into a place where it could only be reached by dismantling the camera. So a normal blower brush should be fine, compressed air is a no-no IMHO.
