ronaldh Posted March 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just started a holiday in Japan, immediately prior to which I bought (on Amazon) a Sandisk Extreme Pro95mb/s 64gb card and formatted it on SD formatter (not sure if that is the correct name of the freeware , with a full overwrite asrecommended by Overgaard and others. It appears to work and replays normally in camera, but when I tried to back it up on my Hyperdrive it shows an error message " memory card isn't FAT16/FAT32 (ERRID FF05)". Does this just mean that the Hyperdrive does not accept a 64gb card or is there a problem with the card? Thanks Ronnie
Advertisement Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Hi ronaldh, Take a look here As disk card problem? Urgent help requested. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted March 13, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2014 Your diagnosis is probably right. It may well be that your Hyperdrive does not accept SDHX cards. However many complaints in this forum arise from these huge cards. I am really puzzled what the need is. Not only do they appear to be wobbly technology, what happens if the card fails/is lost/is eaten by the dog/cut to pieces by a samurai before you have come around to backing it up? It is so much safer to use a number of smaller cards.
jip Posted March 13, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2014 Yes it probably means it cannot acces the 64GB SD card... since the format actually is FAT. (just my guess)
jip Posted March 13, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 13, 2014 I use SanDisk 16GB cards, and am happy with them, they fit enough picture and to be honest, I never get them full... as so it feels. I don't 'machine gun' with my Leica M, so even a 8GB card would suffice for normal shooting... with the M6 I have to change 'cards' every 36so pictures... so changing every 400 images is okay for me. I actually have to change the battery around that time to so its great!
ronaldh Posted March 13, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted March 13, 2014 Thanks all. The reason I got the 64gb is that it is reportedly faster on start up.
jaapv Posted March 13, 2014 Share #6 Posted March 13, 2014 Mostly fast 16 or 8 Gb cards have the shortest startup. Actually on my camera the fastest time is achieved by an old 256 Mb brandless SD card.
Bill W Posted March 13, 2014 Share #7 Posted March 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just bought 10 16 gig San Disk Extreme from B & H as they are relatively cheap. I found I had too many cameras to feed and ended up leaving the house with not enough memory on me. My wife would agree to that I previously bought the same card in 8 gig which are getting harder to find.
AlanJW Posted March 13, 2014 Share #8 Posted March 13, 2014 I have 2 Sandisk Extreme 64G cards (45mb/s) (Class 10) SDXC that read fine in a Hyperdrive Colorspace. One is used on M240 and the other in a D800e. Both formatted with SDFormatter. I would see if you can read the card in a computer. If yes, there is obviously an issue with the Hyperdrive. If no, then I would stop using the card. BTW, I know there are risks with larger cards, but there are also risks in getting close to the card capacity. The 64G cards habe been reliable for me (knock wood) and I never get close to filling them before they get reformatted.
kaiwing Posted March 13, 2014 Share #9 Posted March 13, 2014 You probably need to update the firmware of the Hyperdrive. Visit their website and follow the instruction there and perform it on screen.
ronaldh Posted March 13, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted March 13, 2014 Thanks Alan. Do you have the original Hyperdrive (which I have) or V2? I don't have a computer with me but to be on the safe side have switched to a smaller card. Ronnie
AlanJW Posted March 14, 2014 Share #11 Posted March 14, 2014 Thanks Alan. Do you have the original Hyperdrive (which I have) or V2? I don't have a computer with me but to be on the safe side have switched to a smaller card. Ronnie I have Colorspace UDMA 2. Hope you can resolve but going to a smaller card is smart in the circumstances.
