AlanJW Posted March 7, 2014 Share #21 Posted March 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Whatever it is, I am sure it is going to be fabulous and I will buy two. Or maybe it will not be so fabulous and I will not want one at all. Or maybe something in between, worthy of buying one but complaining at the same time. Or maybe. . . . Advertisement Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Hi AlanJW, Take a look here Save The Date: April 24th Product Announcement. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rramesh Posted March 7, 2014 Share #22 Posted March 7, 2014 My head thinks that it's an April 1 joke, and knowing Leica supply chain, it takes 24 days to deliver. My heart desires: A really great interchangeable lens camera (less than full frame) that accepts M lenses A really great 14mm Super Elmar My wallet does not desire a 28 Summilux or anything super exotic, super large or super expensive. IWC Doppel Posted March 7, 2014 Share #23 Posted March 7, 2014 Leica Rumors reported this exactly 3 months ago. They have been quite accurate over the last several years in advance of new product releases. Jeff If they do release an APSC mini M which is lighter and smaller than the the M240 and M8 and close or below £3k I can see these flying off the shelves assuming its as good or better than the Sony equivalent. I bet after the moaning about cropped and not full frame sensors those with the new M will add it to their kits as an essential travel accessory anyway. I'm still hoping they bring a CMOS base MM so I can pick up an affordable 'old' MM
sblitz Posted March 7, 2014 Share #24 Posted March 7, 2014 not exactly sure what leica is thinking in regard to the price point, assuming rumors are correct. one can buy an ME and get a used lens for around the same amount. why would they introduce a new camera with a new line of lenses, unless of course panasonic will be selling the same under their branding. it will be interesting to see. one thing, the forum has been getting a bit stale lately, so its nice to see a new topic everyone can get revved up about and then let down. mjh Posted March 8, 2014 Share #29 Posted March 8, 2014 Some leaked Info for the Event on the 24th April I don’t think so. This piece appears to be based on (a) publicly available information and ( speculation.
IWC Doppel Posted March 9, 2014 Share #30 Posted March 9, 2014 You mean the Rumors title I referenced ? Jeff Yes it was, I live in hope for a mini M that is a genuine mini M, I think that would draw in the non believers, keep it all manual and I bet the audience would widen, a good deal with a 24 or 35 on purchase. But I'm really dreaming, for me it makes sense, the M is what Leica is built on and bringing out sophisticated auto focus is is where they got left behind before

rramesh Posted March 10, 2014 Share #32 Posted March 10, 2014 In addition to the Leica T, I believe we will see a Leica M 100 anniversary edition (with engraving on top plate and premium price), 2-3 APS-C lenses to go with the Leica T and maybe one new M lens. And at Photokina, Leica will announce the next M to ship mid 2015. With new production capability, Leica will ramp up new products to bridge technology gaps with Sony and Fuji. Jeff S Posted March 10, 2014 Share #33 Posted March 10, 2014 Yes it was, I live in hope for a mini M that is a genuine mini M... The title I referenced has no M, only a T. Even if it were M-based, which it isn't, Leica made that marketing mistake once; they won't do it again. Jeff

Leica’s New Mirrorless System Camera, the Leica T, to Be Unveiled on April 24 | THEME I do understand the likelihood of a Mini M, given all of the comments, doesn't stop me thinking its a good idea. Your faith in Marketing, Leica or other is greater than mine That's not Leica's marketing though is it? It will be a mini M in the same way that the X Vario is a mini M (and that WAS Leica's marketing!).
IWC Doppel Posted March 11, 2014 Share #36 Posted March 11, 2014 That's not Leica's marketing though is it? It will be a mini M in the same way that the X Vario is a mini M (and that WAS Leica's marketing!). I never said it was . My comment related to faith in marketing and my belief that a mini M would be a good idea, assuming the pitch/position didn't erode 'full' M sales. A modern APSC based M8 in a slightly smaller case is what I am thinking (BUT THIS IS ONLY ME !!!)
sc_rufctr Posted March 11, 2014 Share #37 Posted March 11, 2014 What I want? An X Vario sized body with a choice of lenses and the ability to use some old glass. More compact than an M but not toy like... Just perfect. A traditional viewfinder with some tech inside (similar to a Fuji X100) would be nice but not likely IMO. GPS tagging? Why not? Ability to go online and upload photos to the cloud? Well yes in a perfect world but again not likely.

Leica’s New Mirrorless System Camera, the Leica T, to Be Unveiled on April 24 | THEME I only quoted it to provide a different source, which has been rather accurate since the M9. I have no faith in Leica Marketing, but even they aren't dumb enough to repeat the last campaign wording. Your quoted source is not Leica Marketing….as James said. wlaidlaw Posted March 16, 2014 Share #39 Posted March 16, 2014 The article in the Daily Theme has a number of errors. I don’t think the X system was developed with Panasonic. My understanding is that this was pretty much a solo effort from Leica, as no equivalent Panasonic is sold, unlike pretty much all the smaller P&S cameras. An interchangeable mirrorless seems a sensible suggestion however, as that is what the market seems to want. If it had been out last year, I would probably have bought one instead of the Olympus EP-5 I did buy, as a smaller/lighter/cheaper back up to my M’s. The EP-5 has been just fine but the 12-50 lens is far from wonderful. I am looking at getting the far better but much bigger and heavier 12-40/2.8 but if the proposed T is just affordable, I might jump ship to it, particularly if it has a good built in VF or EVF. I don’t like the huge VF-4 sitting on top of my EP-5 (although it works very well). If it is to be a lens announced, the two obvious gaps in the range are as others have said, a 28 Summilux and a 35 Noctilux. However, when did Leica ever do the obvious? I would not be wholly surprised if it is a CMOS S, which is of little to no interest to me. Wilson
IWC Doppel Posted March 16, 2014 Share #40 Posted March 16, 2014 The much talked about and obvious lenses are a new 35/2 to do justice to the 50 APO and the long awaited 28 Summilux, then there is the wide 16 talked about before but I couldn't agree more nothing is that obvious with Leica, given the production challenges with the 50 APO I suspect timing is driven by other things than the obvious. I'd love a 35 Noctilux but doubt we will ever see one with the 'progress' of ISO performance (But what do I know) If I has a lens wish list it would be 35mm f1, 28mm f1.4 and that would keep me saving until they arrived ;-)
