johnbuckley Posted February 28, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) One year ago this weekend (March 2), I was fortunate enough to get my M. I wrote about it after one month's use, and then again this past summer when, after being able to shoot landscapes and wildlife with long lenses, it became clear that the M is a pretty amazing multipurpose tool. I wanted to capture how I felt about it after one year's use, so wrote what follows. I'd love to know if others agree with my conclusions, which I should state at the outset are: this is a glorious camera. Advertisement Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Hi johnbuckley, Take a look here Thoughts On The M After One Year's Use. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted February 28, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2014 I fully concur -exactly my experience. One thing, I never experienced the mad scrolling - it must be something linked to your -or several? - cameras.
johnbuckley Posted February 28, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted February 28, 2014 Thanks, Jaap. It's just the M. You may remember me posting a question about it last summer. I have not seen anyone else with the same complaint. For a while there I set it so that there was no automatic preview of the image, but all that seemed to do was make it so that I'd forget to look for a bit. But when I turned the preview/review function back on, I found the same thing. It only seems to happen when I have taken multiple images in a row. And then it's like it can't figure out which image to show, so rather than showing the one I just took, it scrolls through them all. A little annoying when you have a nearly full 16gb card. To me, a minor problem compared to, say, needing an IR filter to lose that magenta cast. Cheers. JB
woorob Posted February 28, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2014 Very nicely done! Pretty much echoes my experiences with M as well. I really appreciate how I can use longer lenses on it.

JB I've started using them again, there is a bit more ir with the M than the M9.
mirekti Posted March 2, 2014 Share #8 Posted March 2, 2014 I've started using them again, there is a bit more ir with the M than the M9. I've been using them too. The situations isn't that bad, not even close to M8, but once you learn what to look for, it could be a bit annoying.

Tonki-M Posted March 3, 2014 Share #10 Posted March 3, 2014 I fully concur -exactly my experience. One thing, I never experienced the mad scrolling - it must be something linked to your -or several? - cameras. my previous M did have the mad scrolling problem, quite annoying to be honest. So i sold that copy and got another M which is now perfect as a Leica digital should be! good read on the review and it reflects my experience as well. jaapv Posted March 3, 2014 Share #12 Posted March 3, 2014 Mine has a persistent annoying flaw where, after taking a number of shots in succession, the LCD reveals the images whirling past like they’re on a carousel. It’s really odd. It takes a minute or so to calm down and have me be able to look at the last image I shot. Yes, I could send this to Leica NJ or to the hospital in Solms, but it’s an annoyance, not a deal breaker.This.

Tonki-M Posted March 5, 2014 Share #15 Posted March 5, 2014 In a strange way, I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one. Thanks for letting me know. actually same here. when i had the problem back then, i did posted here, but then felt like a lottery winner of bad luck when no one seems to know what i'm talking about. If you get a chance, you should definitely change it for a normal functioning one. Nothing should spoil the M experience when it can be avoided. sillbeers15 Posted March 7, 2014 Share #18 Posted March 7, 2014 I had my M more than a year ago (28 Feb 2013). As a hobbyist the M has boon very much a pleasure to own and use, more so than the M9. The only real frustration is not able to receive the R-M adapters, Multifunctional hand grip, SCA adapters....only until recent months. Only thing that bothers me is the 60 sec B exposure time limit on the M.
jaques Posted March 7, 2014 Share #19 Posted March 7, 2014 I also had the scrolling issue on my first M- since replaced.
Reds Posted March 7, 2014 Share #20 Posted March 7, 2014 Never had the scrolly thing, but mine's on its way back to Solms for a second rangefudger adjustment which I'm annoyed about. I wish it had the magic fairy dust my MM seems to have on its RF - I can't seem to miss focus on that, I'm almost scared to use it, in case it goes out ;-) So, for me I see a lot that people mention the M has a better rangefinder setup, which isn't my experience. What do you mean by better please? When I mount a lens on it, it doesn't seem to click in to place very positively. Sometimes I'm not even sure whether it's latched. It has - it just doesn't feel like it has. Does your M feel like that? Cheers, Nick.
