Guest NEIL-D-WILLIAMS Posted February 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Out of the 12 pictures that I took of various things only 2 were usable and that was in symphony. I have just gone back to using a D3s and I would say that 50% are usable compared to the new M...............yes I like it because the case looks and smells good but apart from that it sucks as a camera

george + Posted February 19, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 19, 2014 So sorry to read that you feel this way. Maybe next time . . . My expectations may be lower. But I've been using Leicas since the 1940-s. And I like my M and what it does for me.

250swb Posted February 19, 2014 Share #8 Posted February 19, 2014 Are you sure 50% are usable, that is a massive hit rate by any standards in the highest echelons of world photography. Would some editing bring it down? Steve
andybarton Posted February 19, 2014 Share #9 Posted February 19, 2014 If I get 2 hits out of 12 I reckon that's a good day. I knew this camera wouldn't last long...
lenicolas Posted February 19, 2014 Share #10 Posted February 19, 2014 2 good photographs in one day? What is this black magic? Walker Evans said he was happy with 12 a year...
fsprow Posted February 19, 2014 Share #11 Posted February 19, 2014 For me, "usable" means "salable" and last year that amounted to 1.2% of the M(240) images and 0.4% of the D4 images. Guess I have room for improvement !

platypus Posted February 20, 2014 Share #14 Posted February 20, 2014 It may well be that some personality types are simply unsuited to using Leica M series cameras. The observation has often been made, on this forum and elsewhere, that they are not for everyone. Probably best to sell your M, cut your losses, and chalk it up to experience. genefama Posted February 20, 2014 Share #17 Posted February 20, 2014 I have to admit I'm not getting as many good pictures with my M Typ 240 as I did with my M9 and 5D Mark III. I'm hoping it's just due to the learning curve that comes with a new camera.

genefama Posted February 20, 2014 Share #19 Posted February 20, 2014 I usually do too, and get paid to. My M240 files just aren't up to my standards yet.
john t Posted February 20, 2014 Share #20 Posted February 20, 2014 Sorry to see that you did not get what you expected from your new M, perhaps the higher success rate with the Nikon is due to the fact that there is less input from you, and more from Nikon. The input to the M is more dependent of the photographer than the auto Nikon, so when you are using the M it will do exactly what you want it to do.John T Fordingbridge Hants
