etienne_werner Posted July 26, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I shot this picture on the Normandy coast using the Lc-1 (I hope it is allowed here). The pic was converted using channel mixer. Which one do you prefer? marc_dufour Posted July 26, 2006 Share #4 Posted July 26, 2006 Etienne, I also prefer the first one. The warm light has a gorgeous contrast with the blue waters. Marc
jmr Posted July 26, 2006 Share #5 Posted July 26, 2006 Etienne, although generally a fan of B&W for landscapes, I too prefer the colour shot. The B&W is a little over-intense to my eye.
odd Posted July 26, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 26, 2006 I only photograph b/w so you might not listen to me. The colours in #1 are great, but to me the stone in the bottom of the pich has a bit to much light. It takes my eyes away from the cliffs in the background, and I suppose that should be the main motif in this shot. That’s better in #2 .. - om
wbesz Posted July 26, 2006 Share #7 Posted July 26, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) When you cover one side over and then cover the other side, then either one is looks OK on it's own. BTW, the image looks unsharp, kind of fuzzy. Is there a reason for this? Cheers
mitchell Posted July 26, 2006 Share #8 Posted July 26, 2006 I greatly perfer the color shot. I generally prefer color, but in this case especially. The B+W looks other worldly in a dead sort of way, not real. I don't think the rocks in the foreground translate well to B+W. On the other hand, the sky and water's edge on the horizon and beneath the cliff, are I think better in the B+W version, which is growing on me. At any rate two interesting, good and very different images. Thanks, Mitchell
stuny Posted July 26, 2006 Share #9 Posted July 26, 2006 Etienne - I can understand you wondering which is better since I find both very arresting. Ultimately, I must go with what Marc wrote -- the wonderful golden cliff and luminous blue water win me over.

etienne_werner Posted July 27, 2006 Author Share #11 Posted July 27, 2006 Well thanks youi all for your replies. I think it is save to assume that color wins. I have to admit that I found the choice difficult. I have always like B&W when photographing for myself. Fortunately with the digital cameras I can easily make B&W from color. If B&W doesn't do then no harm
wbesz Posted July 27, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 27, 2006 Well thanks youi all for your replies. I think it is save to assume that color wins. I have to admit that I found the choice difficult. I have always like B&W when photographing for myself. Fortunately with the digital cameras I can easily make B&W from color. If B&W doesn't do then no harm Color does not (necessarily) win out, choose whatever you like best. This is most important.
cliffshen Posted July 27, 2006 Share #13 Posted July 27, 2006 I guess I'm a bit different... I like the B&W one...
calshot Posted July 27, 2006 Share #14 Posted July 27, 2006 Worry not we have permission to use our LC1 here on the Forum.I like both equally. Is that being unhelpfull? Rob
mhanke Posted July 28, 2006 Share #15 Posted July 28, 2006 #1 is nice, but too common. #2 is great, absolutely. Regards, Marcus
ed_oneal Posted July 29, 2006 Share #16 Posted July 29, 2006 Normally I prefer B&W but the conversion didn't seem to work, at least for me. #1 reminds me of a J. M. W. Turner painting.
fotografr Posted July 29, 2006 Share #17 Posted July 29, 2006 When the light is that good, I'd stick with the color. Really nice shot! Well, on second thought, the b&w looks great. Maybe you should print and frame both, then hang them on opposite sides of the same room.
