I've used that flash and its bigger brother the 580EX II with no problems. Of course the flash will have to be used in fully 'manual mode' L1001270 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! The M 240 will fire the flash head connected to the hot shoe. I was hoping it would work the same with the transmitter but it does not. Does anyone know if there is a Leica to Canon hot shoe adapter that would make this work. It would be great to control off-camera flash with my existing equipment. Hello~ Supposedly it can work with the Leica multifunctional hand grip M ($840) with an external pc sync from the transmitter to the grip. Have you had any other luck? What is the maximum for a digital M ? Answer: This is the official position by leica: The M9 is capable of triggering flash devices using high voltage. It is possible to use flash devices with a voltage up to 600 Volts. But it is important that the positive terminal is on the middle contact of the hot shoe and the ground terminal is on the mounting bar. I'm particularly interested in remote firing...manual mode is ok with me. When I researched this a while back, I was told there are 3rd party triggers (Vello, Cactus, etc.) that may work to fire Canon flashes remotely. mmx_2 Posted November 13, 2015 Share #11 Posted November 13, 2015 I've used my Leica (M 240) with the 580 EX II, and after switching my second system to Nikon I've used the M with the NIkon SB910 which actually works much better. On the Canon I had to use the "maunal mode" meaning I had to program a flash output and then manually correct my exposure after it. On the Nikon, I can set ISO, f-stop and time and the flash will automatically adjust the amount of light, and you can very easily trigger several other Nikon flashguns. In general Leicas suppoert for flash is quite poor (compared to Nikon) but in general I use my Leica very little with flash so for me it has never been an issue. Unfortunately it does not - the ST-E3 requires a recent (released after 2012 from memory) Canon body to work properly. the Yongnuo YN-E3-RT has a "legacy mode" which does work, but only in manual mode, and you need to press the "test" button to send any adjustments to the flash before shooting. Yup totally safe. I've used that flash and its bigger brother the 580EX II with no problems. Of course the flash will have to be used in fully 'manual mode' L1001270 | Flickr - Photo Sharing! All true - but with one little lie - the 580EX2 has an "Auto Thyristor" mode - you set the Aperture and ISO and it automatically adjusts the power using the little "eye" on the front of the flash. (turns off the ETTL mode, so you will need to remember to change the custom function back again, if you want to use ETTL with a Canon camera) from the Canon DLC website Setting external auto flash on the 580EX II 1. Press the illumination/C.Fn button on the back of the 580EX II for at least two seconds until the Speedlite’s display changes. 2. Turn the flash unit’s control dial until “Fn 05” (Speedlite Custom Function 5) appears. 3. Press the Speedlite’s SET button to make the second digit blink on and off; while it is blinking, turn the control dial on the flash unit until option 3 appears (Fn 05-3). By doing this, you have now set the flash to perform standard, traditional external flash metering. Not sure if the 430EX2 has the same functionality - but it has worked on my 580EX2/M240 and X100 the few times i have tried it (when i haven't had the ability to setup remote flashes in the corners of the room) Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
