Hi, we know, the SONY A7/R have problems with ultra-wide and wide lenses.

So, I installed the SONY lens correction app on my A7, and tried it with my

"problem-lenses".

My Voigtländer 5,6/12, all flat, ISO 200, JPEG ooc, f8, uncorrected first.

Looks promising ...

(In the first picture, the artifact in the lower left corner is my rather natural finger.;))

Hi I am not sure whether to carry on with my lens-app series. I want to use it only

for other non-Leica lenses (Voigtländer Heliar 4,5/15, Voigtländer Skopar 4/21,

ZEISS Biogon 4,5/21).

So, let's have break! (SONY A7, Leitz Telyt R 4,8/350, f11, JPEG ooc, crop).

Have a nice Sunday!

Hi, the Eisenmarkt in Wetzlar, where Oskar Barnack took his first pictures with the Ur-Leica in 1914 (SONY A7, Leica Elmarit 2,8/21 ASPH).

Hi, I have enjoyerd looking at these photos, particularly as they are taken with a lens I am very fond of, and which I thought was likely to be a poor performer on the Sonys. But your series seem pretty good on my monitor. Can you tell me what aperture this one in particular, (and the others possibly) were taken at? And whats been done in or outside the camera to corret ant deficiences in the original images please?

Thanks for the all your efforts

Gerry

Hi, Gerry,

I use the A7, because the A7R is said to be trickier with UWA,WA Leica lenses.

The Leica Elmarit 2,8/21 ASPH is my best 21mm on the A7, compared to the

Voigtländer Skopar 4/21 and the ZEISS Biogon 4,5/21 (both of which are useless

on the M9).

The SONY A7 has weak corners, unless you close the aperture. The pictures shown where taken with f8, unless stated otherwise.

I am lazy, so I try to use JPEGs ooc. In the A7, I use the setting VIVID, with +2 for contrast, +2 for saturation, and +3 for sharpness.

I use photoshop 10, if necessary, to add a little light in the shadows, or to darken

bright parts. That is all.

I am satisfied with the A7 for what I use it for, i.e. landscape, architecture and birds (with tele-lenses).

The tilt screen, live view, high ISO and exposure correction are very convenient.

The price I pay is soft corners with open apertures, which is only desirable if you really want a shallow DOF.

If I want better edge performance I must use my M9, which handles less conveniently, however.

If you do not mind the crop-factor of the APS-C NEX-6 (which I also have), this is the most versatile

SONY NEX, also with Leica glass.

Life is full of compromises ...;)

Greetings, Immo!

Thanks, do I take it that there are less problems in the corners with the Nex 6? Accepting the crop of course

Yes, sure. The NEX-6 is easier to live with. Depends on your requirements, of course.

UWA limit is 18mm (with the Voigtländer 5,6/12).

The corners are better with the NEX-6 (or with the M9) ...

I see you highlighted Handheld and 1/20 second exposure

Was this a one-off shot that came out without "shutter shock" or do you get consistent "shock free" results at low shutter speeds?

Sorry for the stupid question but the internet is full of conflicting opinions and i want to hear from actual users.

My life typically lies between 24mm and 90mm so problems with anything wider or longer is not of much importance to me

Hi, thanks for your question.

I guess it was out of luck as I took two shooting to the same object and the other is blurred, also the reason why I specified the shutter speed. I would suggest 1/90 second as a safe setting for handheld condition.
