Leica a la carte

Hello Filip,

Well, at the moment Leica has 3 a la carte programs. The small Ultravid Binoculars a la carte, the Leica X2 a la carte and the Leica M7 MP a la carte program. I have myself a black Leica M7 a la carte with a black chrome Leicavit with special engravings. You can choose between black chrome, silver chrome and black paint Leica M7 MP bodies. My Finder is the 0,72, which is suitable for most circumstances. The body covering is black saddle leather, but I had one Leica M7 a la carte before which came with the old vulcanite covering, I did like even better. Surprisingly the Leica M7 MP a la carte bodys pretty much hold their value. So have fun with your own choice.

Best Regards,

Moritz

Presumably it has been debated before, but I assume that the lack of the a la Carte option on digital M models is because they are perhaps not viewed as 'companions for life' due to the march of technology and the simple fact that they are 'lifed'. Even the Monochrom.

I'm not sure Leica are that philosophical about it – after all, they have offered the very digital X2 as part of a (more limited) à la carte programme. My guess is that the digital M bodies have been selling well enough to make an à la carte option both unnecessary and logistically awkward. Maybe an à la carte M option (with the basic spec staying the same as now) will be the big 'thing' at this year's Photokina?:D

It would be great that leica makes it possible to order an M9 à la carte ... Photokina would be the right moment to announce it!

The M9 is no longer available. Why would Leica start a new line now?
