Leicaiste Posted December 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Finally tried the Leica R - Adapter M 14642 on the M. Strange behavior when choosing 21-35, 28-90 and 28-70 manually in the menu. When I push on Info button, it shows correctly : 3,5/21-35 mm R 2,8/28-90 mm R 3,5/28-70 mm R When I push on Info button when playing a picture, it shows : 3/21 mm 2/28 mm 3/28 mm for the same lenses. No such discrepancy with the other R lenses and R zoom lenses in the Menu. 4/35-70 mm shows 4/35 mm 2,8/70-180 shows 2,8/70 mm 3,4/180 mm shows 3,4/180 mm etc.. jaapv Posted December 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 22, 2013 It cannot be the adapter- it does not convey lens information.
Leicaiste Posted December 22, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted December 22, 2013 Regarding Arca-Swiss style plates, the RRS Camcorder plate fits perfectly the Leica Adapter tripod mount. Leicaiste Posted December 22, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted December 22, 2013 It cannot be the adapter- it does not convey lens information. I know, it is the camera FW. I suppose it will be the same with a coded Novoflex adapter.
jaapv Posted December 22, 2013 Share #5 Posted December 22, 2013 Basically it only gives the shortest focal length so it should be just a matter of adding to the string and changing the aperture..
algrove Posted December 22, 2013 Share #6 Posted December 22, 2013 Correct, it only gives you the lowest FL for any given lens. A royal pain in the ass, but that is what you get. There is no electronic nor mechanical connections to let the camera know the FL you are using. When I see this I NOW try to make sure on any given outing that I do not take any lenses that have the same lowest FL so in the end I am not messed up. Luckily there are few overlaps in FL in the R system that I own. Hey, don't complain you only had to wait 15 months to find this out and you got a tripod mount on the adapter. wmcl Posted December 22, 2013 Share #8 Posted December 22, 2013 The RRS B9-E mounting plate is another alternative for the R Adapter M's tripod foot. It also incorporates an anti-twist feature. http://diglloyd.com/blog/2013/20131013_3-Leica-R-to-M-lens-adapter-ReallyRightStuff-plate.html
Leicaiste Posted December 22, 2013 Author Share #9 Posted December 22, 2013 Yes but why is the aperture recorded in the pictures taken with those 3 zooms only (21-35, 28-90 and 28-70) wider than their widest real aperture ? 2/28mm instead of 2,8/28 mm when using the 28-90 mm. lct Posted December 22, 2013 Share #10 Posted December 22, 2013 Curious given that Leica never made an R-28/2 let alone 28/3 or 21/3. Would someone be kind enough to explain to me how those data can be seen in spite of the adapter conveying no information?
algrove Posted December 22, 2013 Share #11 Posted December 22, 2013 They are seen when on auto lens detection ,the camera detects the R-M adapter. You then hit manual which it is automatically shown when the adapter is present. Once you hit manual the list of supported R lenses is displayed. From this list, one selects the lens you are using. If you take a shot then when pressing Info, the data shows something strange, but on a vario only gives you the lowest FL of the vario lens and in this case of a few lenses it incorrectly shows you a strange minimum f stop.
