What is the reasoning behind the 80% led on the charger?

A battery is never charged up to full capacity; the current is cut off at approximately 80%. We and the camera indicator call that full. If you charge it up to 80 % you are charging to 80% of 80%. This to preserve longevity of the battery and for safety reasons. The same when discharging. It always has a reserve when indicating empty. If it would be discharged to zero it would be dead. ( if it doesn’t catch fire before).the battery is fully charged when both LEDs light up. The battery will charge ar a lower rate as it fills up. The 80% indicator is meant to do a quick charge to a usable level before charging slows down.
