darthpolski Posted December 4, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 4, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm in need of a replacement for the film rewind crank/knob for my early 90s M6. The one on it has been bent an re-shapen many times and is about to give up the ghost. I recall seeing an aftermarket one that was machined rather that cast of pot metal like this one seems to be. Does anyone out there know of where I might be able to source a quality rewind knob for my camera? Thanks for your time, darthpolski

sc_rufctr Posted December 5, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 5, 2013 I replaced mine with an original one from eBay. Not really hard to do but I wouldn't use a non Leica one. Here is the order of the washers. The brand new rewind knob is on the right. Welcome, dear visitor! 250swb Posted December 5, 2013 Share #3 Posted December 5, 2013 I have also seen new and straight second hand ones on Ebay, and I even remember getting one through my local Leica dealer many years ago. As Peter says it is a really easy job. You do get a lot of bent rewind cranks, and it is thin metal. But I just wonder if they absorb the shock of an impact instead of transmitting it directly into the rewind shaft and causing even more damage which a stronger machined crank might do? sc_rufctr Posted December 5, 2013 Share #4 Posted December 5, 2013 I've got a bent rewind crank on my R8 right now but because it's mainly used with my DMR I see no need to replace it But I wouldn't even know were to get a new one. Non on eBay right now.

Guido Posted December 5, 2013 Share #6 Posted December 5, 2013 Why not just order a genuine one from Solms?
sc_rufctr Posted December 5, 2013 Share #7 Posted December 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why not just order a genuine one from Solms? Does Solms supply parts to non Leica techs? I didn't think they did.
sc_rufctr Posted December 5, 2013 Share #8 Posted December 5, 2013 Leica? Just a thought. Yes Leica R8 But should I worry about it? My R8 is really used (lots of character)... Strap rub marks and everything.
250swb Posted December 5, 2013 Share #9 Posted December 5, 2013 Does Solms supply parts to non Leica techs? I didn't think they did. I said in a couple of posts further up I got one via my Leica dealer, they ordered it for me from Solms. Obviously parts availability may come into play, but there are many 'common sense' parts that can be changed without the need for exorbitant charges and 'experts'. The rewind crank needs a screwdriver and a human to operate it, and if Leica think you can't do that simple job they must think you aren't skilled enough to load film either.
